Chapter One

Disclaimer:  I don't own them.  I'll put them back when I'm done.

Kevin and Lucy sat together in the PC Grille, sipping cocktails and talking about old times, smiling and laughing about their exploits together.  Kevin smiled at Lucy, seeing that old flame that he had fallen in love with dance mischievously in her eyes.  She wrinkled her nose in the cutest way when she laughed causing him to feel a tender spot in his heart for her that he thought had been lost somewhere along the way.     He looked past Lucy for a moment and caught a glimpse of Eve sitting at the bar.  She looked so melancholy, so lost in thought and sadness.  He felt like ending the entire
charade this moment, to rush over and take Eve in his arms, to tell her that he loved her and only her.

There's a pain
A famine in your heart
An aching to be free

It was at that moment that Lucy leaned over and pecked him gently on the lips, “Hey Doc, you still with me?”

He looked back at Lucy and smiled, “Sorry, I tuned out for a second there.”

“I noticed.  You looked a million miles away.”

“Not really.  I was only across the room.”

“What’s across the room?” Lucy asked as she glanced around and saw Eve.  Lucy felt disappointment that Kevin had been distracted by Eve.  She had hoped that in some small way, she and Kevin still shared their bond.  They did still share a special bond on so many levels, but Eve was in the picture now, forever blurring the edges for the two of them.   Not to mention Scott, but Scott wasn’t a trouble maker like Eve was.  Lucy knew that eventually Eve was going to hurt Kevin and hurt him badly.  She just hoped that Eve would have the decency to leave before causing Kevin irreparable damage.

And when our worlds they fall apart
When the walls come tumbling in
Though we may deserve it
It will be worth it

Eve watched as Kevin and Lucy sat together at a table in the Port Charles Grille. They were talking in low voices, seated so close that there was no space between them, and smiling and laughing while cuddling.  Eve had to ask herself why she had agreed to go along with this plan to begin with.  It was impossible to think of Kevin and Lucy together again.  It would mean the complete destruction of Eve’s world.  And yet here it was in a pseudo-form, but happening nonetheless.

Eve felt her blood boil as she watched Lucy laugh and place her hand on Kevin’s knee, an intimate gesture that made Eve want to end this charade right now.  She kept her cool and watched the two of them.  She didn’t know why she just didn’t leave the Grille, walk out and forget that the man she loved was fawning over another woman for the benefit of all of Port Charles.

Instead she was locked into her seat at the bar, sipping on a martini and wondering if she was completely insane.  DV was never going to buy this entire act that they had devised.  He was too smart for that.  If he could project psychic images, what was stopping him from tearing images from people’s minds and knowing what they were really up to?  Why couldn’t DV already know what was going on and what the ultimately goal was?

She sighed as she stirred the beverage in front of her with a toothpick.  She should never have gone through with this.  She should never have agreed to let Lucy and Kevin even pretend to be back together.  Any chance Lucy had to destroy Eve’s life was a risk that Eve just could not afford.

Bring your chains
Your lips of tragedy
And fall into my arms

Scott walked in just in time to see Lucy kiss Kevin fully upon the lips.  He felt a
sudden pang of jealous rush through him and he wanted to go over to the table and ask the two of them just what the hell they thought they were doing.  This was all supposed to be play-acting, not a venture into what might have been.

He stopped himself and took a deep breath.  He knew this was going to be hard, but he had never imagined that it would hurt quite so much to see Kevin and Lucy together this way.  He took a seat at a table away from the rest of the restaurant and ordered a small meal.

He had to remain focused if this plan was going to work.  He couldn’t let his
emotions get the better of him.  He had to keep reminding himself that this entire plan was to rid Port Charles of David Bordisso once and for all, but he had a sneaking suspicion that this plan wouldn’t go quite as planned.  He didn’t want to voice his concern because it seemed like a good plan on the surface, but DV was cool and calculating.  He always waited for someone to make a mistake before capitalizing upon it.  And Scott knew that DV was watching and waiting with an inhuman patience for one of them to slip up so that he could make his move.

You wear guilt
Like shackles on your feet
Like a halo in reverse

DV stepped into the PC Grille and smiled as he saw Eve sitting alone at the bar, Baldwin in the corner and Lucy and Dr. Collins amusing themselves with one another.  It wasn’t quite as he had planned it, but it was going well.  They didn’t even know that they were playing right into his hands.  Things were moving well ahead of schedule and much to DV’s pleasure.

He took a seat and ordered a bottle of champagne.  He had much to celebrate this evening.  Baldwin and Lucy had parted ways, at least temporarily, which was all the time he needed to implement the master plan.  And Eve was left alone, vulnerable to his plot of revenge.  She should have known better.  Of all people in the world, Eve Lambert should have known that crossing David Bordisso was a tactical error with the gravest of
consequences.  She was going to pay for what she did to him and his family, and he knew exactly how he was going to collect.
