Sins Of The Father
Chapter Eight
by Katie

The sun streams through Chris's hospital room window. Chris's eyes flutter open and he finds Eve's face just inches from his own. Though in pain and feeling miserable Chris can't help but smile.
Chris: Even if I die today, I'll die having spent the night with the woman I love.
He stairs at her intencly just soaking up the moment. Chris gently strokes her hand as he watches her peacefully sleep. Eve smiles in her sleep and starts mumbling.
Eve: I love you. I love you, Ramsey.
Chris is blown away by this as tears of joy fill his eyes. A smile of pure happiness spreads across his features.
Chris: I love you two Lamburt.
Chris gushes without thinking.
Eve is startled by the sudden noise and opens her eyes.
Eve: Oh my gosh I fell asleep!
Chris: Ah, you always fall asleep on me.
Chris teases.
Eve: No, I'm supposed to have dinner with Scott! We have so much to celebrate. You know we're getting married.
Eve is struggling to get her things together.
Chris is stung but covers.
Chris: Well, it's a little late or should I say early for dinner.
Chris points to the window indicating the sun rise.
Eve: Oh, My, God! I've been here all night! I have to call Scott!
Eve pulls out her cell phone and tries to dial but there is no dial tone.
Eve: Damn no dial tone! Of all the luck! The service must be out, damn.
Eve looks at her watch and sees the time then looks at Chris who is looking sicker then ever. Her concern for him returns. She goes back into doctor mode and begins checking his vitals.
Eve: How are you feeling this morning.
Chris: Pretty lousy, but for the record it helped having you here last night.
Eve smiles
Eve: Well, I'm glad I could help. So, you ready for your new liver?
Chris shrugs
Chris: I guess. Though lets face it my odds aren't good.
Eve: Hey, don't talk like that. You are getting a great liver, and you're going to have the best doctors working on you.
Chris: Are you going to be in the OR?
Eve nods
Eve: Yes, I'm going to be putting the new liver in you.
Chris smiles up at her adoringly.
Chris: Then I'll be fine.
Eve is touched by his confidence in her.
Eve: You sure will be.
Eve sighs.
Eve: I'll have to call Scott after surgery. I need to go get ready. You relax, someone will be in soon to prep you. I'll see you soon okay, roomie?
Chris nods, Eve rushes out.
Chris stairs after her.
Chris: You may be engaged to Scott, but I know who has your heart Eve, and I won't ever forget.
Scott groggily rolls over expecting to find Eve. His hand reaches and searches but comes up empty. He opens his eyes and looks around. But there is no Eve.
Scott: Eve?
No answer.
Scott sees that her side of the bed hasn't been disturbed.
Scott: Did she not come home last night?
Scott gets up and looks out the window and sees her car is gone.
Scott: What the hell is going on here?
Scott checks his voice mail but there are no messages.
Scott then remembers Chris.
Scott: I wonder if Ramsey took a turn for the worse.
Scott calls the hospital.
Maggie: General Hospital six floor nurses station.
Scott: Yeah, this is Scott Baldwin, Dr. Eve Lamburt's fiance, I was wondering if Dr. Lamburt was there?
Maggie: Yes, she spent the night in Dr. Ramsey's room watching over him.
Scott: Has he taken a turn for the worse?
Maggie: No. In fact I just check on him and he looks happier then he has in a while. Dr. Lamburt is scrubbing up right now to do his surgery. Would you like to leave a message for her?
Scott tries to hold down a twinge of jealously.
Scott: No. Thank you very much.
Scott hangs up.
Scott: Well, I can't fault her devotion to her patients or her friends but a call would have been nice.
Scott goes down stairs a bit irritated. He opens the front door and picks up the morning news paper. He looks down and sees the blaring headline
POLICE DEPARTMENT PROTECTS KILLER.
Scott: What the hell is this?
Scott begins reading. His temper begins to flair as he sees what the story is about, and he violently throws the paper across the room.
Scott: So that scams kid wants to play dirty, huh? Well, two can play at this game. And when I'm through with this tramp she'll be sorry she ever came to this town.
Scott grabs the phone and dials a number.
Sloan: Hello?
Scott: Hey Sloan, it's Baldwin. Listen I need a favor. I need the name of a doctor who works at GH. Her father was Ray Conway, and she used to be a prostitute and a drug addict. I need her first name and fast. I doubt you'll have trouble getting it. After all there can't be to many pill popping whores at GH.
Sloan: I'm sure there's not, I'll get right on it. What do you need it for, anyway?
Scott: I need it because once I have it, I'm going to ruin them.
Frank is sitting at the bar in the recovery room having a little breakfast before he goes on duty. As he eats he tries desperately to get thoughts of Julie out of his mind. Suddenly a young woman comes in and plops down near him. Frank mutters to himself.
Frank: Maybe, a rebound girl is just what I need. She's cute and you never know where you might find love.
Frank smiles over at the young lady.
Frank: Hi there. It's a beautiful day out isn't it?
Shelly smiles thinking of the blaring headline in the paper and just beams.
Shelly: Oh it's an amazing day that is for sure. So stranger what's your name, mine's Shelly.
Frank: Frank Scanlon. So you knew in town?
Shelly: Yeah, just got here a few days ago.
Frank nods
Frank: Must be nice to be new in town. I've lived here all my life. So what brings you to Port Charles?
Shelly: Not that it's really any of your business but I had something's to handle.
Frank: Oh, well, I hope you got whatever it is handled.
Shelly lights up a cigarette.
Shelly: Want one?
Frank: No, I don't smoke. You know, it's really bad for you.
Shelly rolls her eyes.
Shelly: Thanks for the public service announcement.
Frank shrugs
Frank: Just stating a fact.
Shelly: Yeah, well, I'll give you another fact. It's none of your business what I do.
Frank can't help but chuckle.
Frank: Yeah, I guess it's not. Just trying to carry on a conversation.
Shelly looks him over and deciding he's hot changes her attitude. She flutters her eyes and gives him a seductive smile.
Shelly: Well, I'm sure we can find something more tantalizing to talk about then my habits. Wanna come sit by me?
Just then Julie, and Karen walk in. Frank and Julie's eyes lock and he sighs. Shelly catches all of this
Frank: Sure.
He moves right over to the stool next to her.
Shelly: So what do you do, Scallion? Besides flirt and sit in bars in the morning.
Frank laughs.
Frank: I'm an EMT.
Shelly pretends to accidentally brush her leg up his leg as she re crosses her legs. She smiles at him alluringly.
Shelly: A regular super hero huh?
Frank laughs.
Frank: No, just and EMT? So what do you do?
Julie takes a deep breath Karen rests her hand on Julie's arm.
Karen: We can leave if you want to.
Julie: No. No, this is fine. I have to get used to seeing him out with other people, this is a small town.
Julie walks to a table with Karen close behind.
Shelly strokes Frank's arm.
Shelly: Oh, all sorts of thing.
She laughs and flutters her eyes.
Julie: Well, he sure moved on quickly.
Karen: Come on Julie they are just talking.
Julie: Karen, the last time I check running your hand across a guys arm, and your leg up against his was doing more then talking.
Frank: You flirt pretty shamelessly you know?
Shelly: Well, you approached me, remember? Besides, it's fun. So you want to show me around this town or something?
Frank: Maybe later. I need to get to work.
Frank pulls out a piece of paper and scribbles down his number.
Frank: Call me later if you like.
Shelly takes the number smiles and sticks it down in her cleavage. Frank leers.
Julie: Okay that's it. I'm out of here.
Julie gets up grabs her purse and leaves with Karen close behind. Karen shoots Frank a dirty look.
Frank: Well, I better go.
Shelly: Well it was a pleasure meeting you.
Frank: Yeah, it was nice meeting you two.
Shelly stands and gives him a kiss on the cheek.
Shelly: I'll call you.
She bats her eyes.
Frank shifts back and forth not sure he's happy about what he's done.
Frank: Great.
He leaves quickly Shelly rolls her eyes.
Shelly: It just amazes me the number of guys who will use me to make their girlfriends jealous.
She shakes her head and takes a long puff off her cigarette.
Matt arrives at the hospital clocked in a disguise.
Matt: Eve cares so much about that worthless Ramsey, I wonder how she'd feel if she lost him on the table.
Matt smiles evilly.
Matt: The saintly Dr. would no doubt feel terrible guilt.
Matt hurries towards the blood lab.
Matt: And imagine if the thing that caused it was poor Chris getting the wrong blood type. After all any good doctor knows you can only give a patient the same blood type they have or they'll die. And just who would Eve have to blame if that happened to Chris.
Matt lets himself in the lab.
Matt: After all she's the one in charge of his surgery. So she's the one that ordered the blood.
Matt laughs
Matt: Just think how awful she'd feel. Heck she might even leave medicine all together, if she isn't fired for malpractice first!
Matt laughs and shakes his head.
Matt: And I'd be rid of them both!
Matt takes the blood labeled for Chris's surgery and switches it with his own which he knows isn't compatible.
Matt: Don't say I never gave you anything Ramsey.
Matt snorts.
He puts Chris's name on it and throws the real blood Chris was supposed to get out. Then sits back and smiles to himself.
Matt: Well, now Ramsey is as good as dead and Eve's medical career is as good as over.
Matt laughs
Matt: All in a days work.
Matt leaves quickly. Grace comes from around a corner as Matt leaves the lab.
Grace: Matt? What are you doing here?
Just then Jill walks over.
Jill: Everything okay?
Grace: What? Oh yeah fine. How is Chris doing?
Jill: He's being prepped for surgery right now. This donor isn't coming a second to soon. A few more days and Chris would be as good as dead.
Grace: Thank God for Jake.
Jill: No kidding. Well, I need to go get the blood Eve ordered for Chris.
Grace: Okay, see you later.
Jill: Bye.
Jill heads into the lab, as Grace heads back to work.
Jake is laying in his hospital room waiting to be taken to surgery, John is at his side.
John: You nervous?
Jake: I guess. I mean, it's a fairly straight forward procedure, and I know the doctors are great. But any surgery is scary.
John: Yeah. Man, I still can't believe you decided to do this so quickly.
Jake shrugs
Jake: Chris doesn't have time for me to sit around weighing the options. He's on borrowed time as it is. Besides, no matter how long I'd thought about it I'd have come to the same decision. I mean, I'm a match, and Chris has a rare blood factor. How would I have ever looked myself in the mirror again if I didn't do this?
John nods
John: Yeah I know what you mean. And given the fact that he's your twin, I mean, what else could you do.
Jake: Exactly. Really, I'm more worried for Chris then myself. Truth is he's in a hell of a lot more danger then me. I've got a healthy liver, and I'll have a healthy liver no matter how this surgery goes. Chris on the other end needs for everything to go perfect. If it doesn't he'll die.
John nods
John: And he'll die not knowing your his twin.
Jake: Yeah, well, I'm not sure how much that means to him. I mean, he's never looked for me, and he has to know I exist right?
John: I don't know Jake. You didn't know he existed.
Jake considers this.
Jake: Yeah, that's true. Well, there isn't much I can do about that right now. I guess we just have to pray all goes well you know? That way when he's stronger we can talk about it.
John nods
John: Sounds like a plan.
Jake: Yeah. So, did you call my Mom?
John: Yeah, I told her just what you asked me to. That you were going to be busy in the OR all day, but you wanted to make sure she got the money.
Jake nods
Jake: Good. And she got it right?
John: Yeah, early this morning. She said to tell you how grateful she is, and asked if you could call when you get done at the hospital.
Jake: Yeah, I can manage a call probably late tonight or early morning.
John: I still don't know about this not telling her you're not operating in the OR but being operated on.
Jake: Look she's got enough on her plate without worrying about me.
John: I suppose.
Jake: Besides if she was worried then I'd have something else to take care of, and my plate is pretty full at the moment. I'm giving my brother part of my liver, then going to try to build a relationship with him, I'm trying to figure out how to rebuild my mothers savings, I mean, I don't have time to deal with her worrying about me.
John nods
John: I hear you. I'll check in on her later for you okay?
Jake: Thanks.
Jake lays his head back and rests.
Joe, Karen, and Julie are working at the nurses station. Joe and Karen are talking quietly so Julie can't hear them.
Joe: I cannot believe my brother did that.
Karen: Oh, Joe, it was so obvious what he was doing it was ridiculous! The girl wasn't his type, and he kept glancing at Julie to make sure she was watching.
Joe shakes his head.
Joe: This just keeps getting worse doesn't it.
Karen: I'm almost afraid to see what happens next.
Just then Emilo walks up.
Emilo: Hi Julie, you seen Frank?
Julie: No. Not since I saw him all over some girl at the recovery room.
Emilo: Whoa. Frank was all over some other girl? Are you sure?
Julie puts her file down and looks at Emilo
Julie: Saw it with my own eyes. See Frank believes that when you have problems in your relationship the best thing to do is drop it and run to a new one.
Just then Frank stops off the elevator. Julie locks eyes with him. Julie then looks at Emilo and moves closer to him. Joe mutters softly so only Karen can hear.
Joe: Oh God, now what.
Julie: You know, Emilo. You are looking really good these days. Are you working out more.
Karen raises her eye brow and glances at Joe who is just shaking his head. Julie smiles at him flirtatiously.
Emilo blushes flattered by her words.
Emilo: Thank you. Yeah, actually I have been working out some.
Julie pats him on the arm gently making sure Frank is watching.
Julie: Well it shows. You know, Emilo, you work so hard, and I just can't focus on work right now. You want to go get some coffee?
Emilo checks his watch oblivious to what Julie is doing.
Emilo: Yeah, sure I guess I have sometime.
Julie slips her hand into Emilo's and smiles
Julie: Great.
Emilo is surprised but says nothing. They head to the elivator Julie gives Frank a sharp look. Frank just sighs and shakes his head then checks his messages.
Joe and Karen look at each other and shake their heads. Joe rubs his face and Karen sighs heavily.
Karen: I have patients.
She leaves Joe walks over to Frank.
Joe: So this is the Frank and Julie self destruction show, huh?
Frank: Don't start.
Frank walks off in a huff.
Grace is hurrying down the hall busy helping with the preparations for Chris's surgery when she runs into John.
Grace: Oh! I'm so sorry!
John: Oh excuse me. That's okay. I should have been watching where I was going more.
Grace: Same here.
They bend down to pick up the papers that have fallen along with John's wallet. Some pictures have fallen out of it, Grace hands them to John. John laughs
John: Thanks, that's what I get for looking at pictures while I'm walking down the hall.
Grace smiles
Grace: That's a cute picture you got there.
She points to a picture of two small babies.
John: Thanks, that's me and my cousin Jake.
Grace: Oh, Jake is your cousin? You must be here for the surgery.
John nods
John: Yeah. We've always been best friends, so I wouldn't be anywhere else.
Grace nods.
Grace: You know, Jake truly is saving a life today. You should be very proud of your brother.
John nods
John: I'm always proud of him.
Grace: Well, I need to go, I'll see you later. Bye.
John: Bye.
Grace hurries onto Chris's room. She comes in and finds him starring at an old yellowed picture.
Grace: Hey you ready to get your new liver?
Chris sighs
Chris: Yeah, I guess. Can't say I'm looking forward to it. The recovery isn't exactly fun.
Grace: No but it's not forever. And once you get through it, you'll have your old life back.
Grace smiles encouragingly.
Chris tries to smile then looks back at the picture and sighs.
Grace: What's that?
Chris: Oh, just my family keeping me company.
He shows her the picture.
Chris: That's me and my fraternal twin brother. He died not long after birth.
Grace stairs at the photo dumb founded. Chris doesn't notice.
Chris: Hold on to it for me while I'm in surgery will, you? It's my prized possession I don't want anything happening to it.
Grace: What? Oh, of course. I'll, I'll keep it safe.
Chris: Thanks.
Just then two orderlies come in.
Orderly: It's time to take you two the OR.
Chris: Oh goody.
Chris rolls his eyes. The orderlies whisk him away. Grace continues to stare at the picture.
Grace: That, that baby. He, he looks just like the baby in John's picture. But, but that's impossible. I mean, Jake isn't adopted is he? And, and even if he was, Chris said his brother was dead. But, but Dr. Boardman said himself that it was so odd to find such a perfect match in two people that weren't siblings. Could it be? Could Jake and Chris be brothers?
Shelly saunters into the PCPD with a very satisfied look on her face, paper in hand. She marches up to officer Andy who is reading a copy of the paper.
Shelly: I need to speak to Detective Garcia immediately.
Officer Andy looks up and sighs.
Andy: You again, huh?
Shelly sneers at him.
Shelly: Look, I got enough on you people to bring this whole damn department down. So skip the attitude and get Garcia now!
Andy grumbles under his breath and goes to find Garcia. Garcia soon arrives.
Garcia: I was wondering when you were going to show up. Found one of my officers locked in a jail cell this morning, and now this!
He holds up the paper.
Garcia: Can't imagine how they could have gotten a hold of all this information, can you?
Garcia glares at Shelly accusingly.
Shelly rolls her eyes, and puts her hands on her hips.
Shelly: Listen you, I got no idea how your goof ball officer landed in a jail cell and frankly I don't give a damn. And as for this!
Holds up her copy and smirks.
Shelly: Well, detective, as I'm sure you know, the truth always finds away out! Now, you listen and you listen good. My father was murdered in cold blood, and this paper here? It proves that you not only know exactly who the killer is, but that your completely corrupt and incompetent department covered it up. Now you got two choices. Either bring the dirt bag to justice, or be prepared for a hell of a lot worse then some embarrassing news article. And I promise you, there can and will do worse.
She sneers at Garcia.
Shelly: Now make an arrest or else!
She flings the paper at him and storms out leaving Garcia fuming.
Scott is pacing by the phone checking his watch.
Scott: How long could it take to find out some name! Sloan is known for being sneaky, and it's not like the hospital employs a whole list of whores. Well, once I get this name, I'm having him fax it along with the wrap sheet right over to the Port Charles Harold. Once this shows up in the paper that girl will shut the hell up!
Scott snorts
Scott: Girl some girl! She's a damn tramp! Well, she and her whole damn family are going to pay. No one messes with the Baldwin's no one.
Scott seethes with anger.
Just then the phone rings. Scott grabs it.
Scott: Sloan?!
Sloan: Hey Scott, sorry it took me a little longer then expected. Had to do some digging.
Scott: Yeah, yeah. So you got the name?
Sloan: Sure do.
Scott: Great. Now, look, first things first you got the wrap sheet on her I sent you, and the letter explaining everything Ray Conway did to my little girl right?
Sloan: Yeah, I'm looking at it right now. Damn bastard deserved to die for what he did.
Scott: I couldn't agree more. Okay, I want you to send the name of this bimbo along with her wrap sheet, and the letter I wrote explaining the situation and who and what Ray Conway was over to the Port Charles Harold. They're expecting it. My friend over there assured me it will be front page news, especially since this tramp has thrown it into the lime light. She'll be sorry she ever messed with me.
Sloan: No problem, I have the fax number for the Port Charles Harold right here. Hold on one minute.
Scott waits impatiently and begins chomping on an apple.
Sloan: Okay, it's all been sent.
Scott: Good. Now, what is her name I want to keep it in my files along with the rest of the junk I've collected on her.
Sloan: Sure. Her name is Dr. Eve Lamburt.
Chris is laying on the operating table as finally preparations are being made.
Grace is down by the blood lab.
Grace: I wonder what Matt was doing in there?
She goes inside.
Eve is finishing scrubbing up.
Eve: Is the patient prepped?
Jill: Yes, and I have the blood you ordered on stand by.
Grace walks over to the blood cooler and looks in.
Grace: Nothing seems out of place.
Eve: Good. I've never heard of a transplant where the patient didn't need some blood.
Jill nods.
Something makes grace look over at the trash bin.
Grace: I know they only put contaminated blood waist in there, but, something is telling me to look.
Grace shakes her head and moves over to the bin.
Eve: Okay, lets get this how on the road.
Eve walks into the OR.
Grace opens the lid and finds several bags of un opened blood laying in there.
Grace: That's odd. They normally don't leave the blood in the bags. She puts some gloves on and picks one of the bags up.
Eve: Okay, I want you to have that blood ready to go just in case he starts to bleed. Keep those ringers ready to be wide open.
Everyone nods.
Grace looks at the name on the blood.
Grace: Chris Ramsey? But why would his name be on this blood. I saw Jill take the blood up to the OR for him.
Grace has a flash back to a conversation with Matt.
Matt: The world would be a better place without Chris in it.
Grace's eyes widen with terror.
Grace: He wouldn't! Would he?
Eve: Scalpel!
Eve begins to cut.
Grace remembers seeing Matt leave the lab.
Grace: OH, MY, GOD! HE DID! HE IS TRYING TO KILL CHRIS!
She looks at her watch.
Grace: Oh God, they've started! I have to stop them!

Chapter Nine

Grace still holding the bags of blood meant for Chris goes charging out of the lab and running as fast as she can for the OR. Back in the OR Eve is working away.
Eve: Okay, so far so good. Now I'm almost ready to remove his damaged liver. When I do this be ready with the blood. This is generally when they need it, because so many arteries are open.
Everyone nods and readies the blood.
Grace is tearing down the hall when she bumps into John
Grace: Oh!
John laughs
John: We're making a habit of this.
Grace: I'm sorry I've got to get to the OR with this blood. John, if they give him the blood that's in there now Chris will die!
John thinks of all Jake is doing and what Chris's death would mean for Jake. His protective take charge nature kicks in.
John: I was a sprinter in college give it to me!
John takes the blood and with Grace running behind him they go charging towards the OR.
Eve: Oh looks like we got a bleeder here, as I predicted. Okay open the...
Just then Grace and John come charging into the OR
John: STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone jumps shocked by the sudden interruption.
Grace: Do not open those ringers! It's the wrong blood!
Eve gasps
Eve: Oh, My, God!
Jill: No, I grabbed the blood marked Chris Ramsey. And who is that?
Jill points at John
John: I"m Jake's cousin, and I'm helping get this blood to you guys.
John smiles and hands one of the nurses the blood bags.
John: Here.
Nurse: Uh thanks.
Grace: No, you got the blood Matt meant for you to get.
Eve is clamping down on Chris's bleeding artery as hard as she can.
Jill: What?!
Eve: Grace, give us the short version fast!
Grace: I saw Matt coming out of the blood lab, I saw Jill go in to get the blood for Chris. I wanted to know what Matt had been doing in there. I went in and found those un opened bags of blood with Chris's name on it in the blood disposal vat.
Jill: But how do we...
Grace: Jill, Matt told me the world would be a better place without Chris in it. And if he wasn't switching the blood then what the hell was he doing in there!
Eve: And this blood you found is definitely the right blood?
Grace: Yes!
Eve: Damn that monster! Okay I'll deal with Harmen after we finish with Chris. Jill get the right blood ready and start pumping it in, he's hemorrhaging!
Jill: Yes, Doctor.
Jill moves quickly
Eve: Thanks, Grace. You not only just saved Chris's life, but my career.
Grace nods
Grace: Glad to help. Come on John we'd better get out of here.
John looks down at Chris all ready feeling rather protective. Then takes a deep breath and turns to Grace.
John: Right.
They leave and out side try to catch their breath.
Grace: Thanks for the help. You are quite a runner.
John: Yeah, well, I was raised to believe when someone needs help you help end of story. Besides Jake is giving part of his liver up. I'd hate to see it be for nothing.
Grace nods and smiles
Grace: Yeah, Jake is doing a wonderful thing for Chris.
John: So what's the story with this Matt guy? What's his problem with Chris?
Grace: I don't know. Matt and Chris were never friends. They just always seemed to be at odds. Admittedly Chris has done some not so nice things to Matt. But I think if push came to shove Chris would come through for Matt. That's why I was so shocked when Matt refused to help Chris when Chris was brought into the ER. His attitude along with his reaction to Chris got him suspended, and I guess he blames Chris for that to.
Grace shakes her head sadly,.
Grace: I thought I knew him.
John feels his anger towards Matt rising. He takes a deep breath reminding himself that no one knows the connection.
John: Well, at least he's not working here anymore. And hopefully after this stunt Matt will go to jail where scum like him belongs.
Grace nods.
John: Look I'm going to go get some coffee, you want some?
Grace smiles
Grace: Sure.
They head off.
Scott chokes on his apple and spits part of it out and drops the remainder to the floor.
Scott: What?!
Sloan is a tad confused by Scott's reaction.
Sloan: Ray Conway's daughter is Dr. Eve Lamburt. Is something wrong?
Scott is turning three shades of red and begins pacing trying to take some deep breaths before he erupts.
Scott: There, there must be some kind of mistake here, that, that, can't be right, are you sure about this?
Sloan: Positive. She even has Daddy's name as her middle name. Evelyn Ray Lamburt. Got the records to prove it right here. Is there a problem.
Scott tries to pull himself together as he runs his hand threw his hair, and paces wildly.
Sloan: Mr. Baldwin are you there? Is there a problem.
Scott tries to pull his thoughts together quickly.
Scott: Yeah, I'm here. No, no problem at all. That's who is causing all these problems for my family then that's who is going to get what they deserve.
Scott hangs up. Then angrily flings the phone across the room. It slams against the wall and breaks then falls to the floor.
Scott: DAMNIT!!!!
Scott begins prowling around the room like a tiger.
Scott: How could she do this! How could she do this to me, to my family! I can't believe I ever let that low life in my house! IN MY BED! This whole time she's been pretending to love me, to care about my girls! And the whole time she's been plotting to stab us in the back! She's nothing but a lying, two timing slut! I bet she's been sleeping with Ramsey! I bet she came to town just to destroy my family! WHY!!!
Scott picks up the news papers and starts ripping it apart.
Scott: She pretended to be Karen's friend! But what kind of friend would do this?!
Scott picks up the pillows off of the couch and begins ripping them apart. He knocks over chairs and sends pictures and lamps along with end tables crashing to the floor. Now out of breath and with hot tears brimming at the edges of his anger filled eyes Scott surveys the room. He picks up a picture of Eve and stairs at it.
Scott: Well, that little heathen is in for a rude awakening! You're are going to pay you back stabbing slut!
He heaves the picture across the room, slamming it against the front door.
Scott looks around the room at the mess as tears fill his eyes he wipes his face his anger steadying him.
Scott: No one messes with the Baldwin's, no one.
Rhonda sits in her car out side the police station looking at the paper. She shakes her head tears coming down her cheeks.
Rhonda: Oh, Alan. I knew I owed you a lot but I had no idea just how much. You gave me a friend when I needed one, saved my daughter from destroying her life, put us both on the right track, and saved us from that horrible man. Not only me but you saved my daughter. God knows what he would have done to her now had he had the chance. And...and you punished him for his actions. I...I can never repay you for all you did for us. But, but one thing I can do, is make sure you aren't punished for doing what had to be done. I won't let them hurt you, Alan. You were the best thing that ever happened to me and Karen. I won't let them hurt you. I'll go to the electric chair before I'll let them hurt you.
Rhonda takes a deep breath.
Rhonda: I know what I have to do.
Then with solid determination in her eyes she gets out of her car slams the door and marches towards the police station. Across town at the hospital Alan is sitting at his desk with tears in his eyes looking at the article.
Alan: Oh Rhonda. I always prayed this would never come out. The last thing I ever wanted for you and Karen to have to do, is re live the horrors you both suffered because of Ray. I'm so sorry.
He shakes his head sadly then sighs and picks up a picture of Monica off his desk.
Alan: Oh, Monica. I do love you. But, but I can't let this go into a long drawn out trail. I can't let Karen and Rhonda suffer through that. Especially when I truly am guilty. I won't let them suffer.
Alan gets up takes a deep breath and races out the door.
Shelly sits quietly in her hotel room writing in her journal.
Dear Diary
As of today, I think I've succeeded in getting the cops to actually go after the man that killed my Dad. I can't understand why the people in this town don't think it's a big deal that an innocent man was killed. A man that had two small children and a wife who I am sure he loved. He was a good man, he had to have been. I know he loved us, he just had some problems. But just because he was an abusive drunk is no reason for him to be murdered. He only hit when he was drunk. I think he left to protect us. I loved him so much. I know he loved us, he just had to. Well, at any rate I've made progress and I am pleased to report I have the cops in a corner, they will have no choice but to help.
Shelly.
Shelly puts the journal away and pulls out an old yellowed picture of herself as an infant and a toddler Eve in there fathers arms. He is holding them close and is smiling as Eve kisses his cheek and baby Shelly looks up at him adoringly. She strokes the picture sadly.
Shelly: Don't worry Daddy. I'll get the man that hurt you, I promise.
She takes a deep breath wipes her face and puts the picture away.
Shelly: I need a distraction.
She then remembers Frank's number. She looks at the piece of paper for a couple of minutes.
Shelly: Unless he's made up with his girl, which I highly doubt given the performance we gave earlier, he's probably still available. And I want some fun.
She grabs the phone and dials Frank's cell phone number. Frank is sitting in the cafeteria trying not to watch Julie and Emilo. When his phone suddenly rings.
Frank: Yeah.
Shelly: Hey, it's Shelly. We met earlier at the recovery room, and you gave me your number.
Frank looks over at Julie and Emilo angrily.
Frank: Yeah, I remember. Look, you want to go out to dinner later?
Shelly: I'd love to.
Frank: Great I get off at Six. Meet me here at the hospital. Six floor nurses station.
Shelly: Okay.
Frank: Great.
Frank hangs up.
Frank: Two can play this game, Julie.
Shelly sits in her room and rolls her eyes.
Shelly: And just how much should I bet his girl will be at that nurses station.
She groans.
Shelly: When will I meet a man that wants me for me, and not cause I can make other girls jealous.
Shelly shakes her head.
Shelly: Well, if that's what he wants me for then I'll just go shopping and find something that will really get a reaction from his girl.
Shelly grabs her purse and heads out.

Joe and Karen are talking near the nurses station.
Joe: I don't know what has gotten into those two. They are so right for each other and yet, they are doing all they can't to destroy what they have.
Joe shakes his head in frustration.
Joe: You know my whole life Frank has been there for me. Everytime I have nearly self destructed he's been there to make things better. But I don't know how I'm supposed to fix this when he won't even listen to me!
Karen rests a supportive hand on Joe's arm.
Karen: I take it you couldn't get through to him?
Joe shakes his head.
Joe: Nope shut me down yesterday and blew me off today.
Karen: Maybe, maybe I should talk to him.
Joe: Why? I mean, what would that do?
Karen: Well, maybe since I'm an abuse survivor two, and I am also close to Julie he'd let me help. You know, I have an advantage that you don't have since I'm close to Julie.
Joe shrugs
Joe: I guess it couldn't hurt. Maybe I should talk to Julie. You know, try to help her see Frank's point of view.
Karen nods.
Karen: Maybe that is the key. Maybe we need to switch tactics. You know, help them see where the other is coming from.
Joe nods
Joe: It's worth a try. But you know there is something else we need to do.
Karen: What?
Joe smiles and pulls her in close to him.
Joe: Start planning our wedding. Karen I love you more then life its self and I can't wait to be your husband.
Karen smiles lovingly up at Joe.
Karen: I can't wait to be your wife Joe Scanlon. It's a dream come true. I love you more then you'll ever know.
They kiss tenderly.
Joe: So what do you say? We'll deal with operation save Frank and Julie tomorrow and focus on you and I tonight.
Karen smiles
Karen: I think that sounds perfect.
They kiss again tenderly.
Eve is working tirelessly in the OR to complete the transplant.
Eve: Okay, it's done. Now all we have to do is release the clamp and see if it's going to work.
She looks at Chris intensely
Eve: Come on Ramsey, you've made it this far don't fail me now.
She releases the clamps as everyone holds their breath. The liver begins functioning everyone sighs.
Eve: We did it! We did it.
Jill: Nice job Dr.
Eve smiles
Eve: Thanks, thanks all of you. We all did this. Okay, lets sow him up, and get him moved to recovery.
Jill: What are you going to do about Dr. Harmen?
Eve gets a dark and hard look on her face as she looks from Chris back to Jill.
Eve: Call the police and report an attempted murder. He's going to pay, mark my words Jill. No one messes with Ramsey, and gets away with it. No one.
Eve continues to work.
John and Grace have returned to the waiting area after getting coffee.
John: Thanks for getting coffee with me.
Grace: Thanks for inviting me. I needed the break.
John: So is Chris a good buy or a bad guy? Not that he deserved what Matt did, no one does. I'm just curious.
Grace considers this.
Grace: Chris is a lost guy. See, none of us are only products of our genetics. We are products of how we are raised, where we are raised, and the people and events we encounter. Chris has unfortunately had a really awful past. I don't know a lot, but what I do know is pretty sad. He grew up with an extremely abusive father who abandoned him as a teenager. His father taught him not to trust, not to love, to rely on himself, and not to care. I think the physical and emotional scars from that are really big. And I think they cause him to be who he is. He doesn't trust because he's scared, he doesn't dare love because he was taught to believe it hurts. I mean, don't get me wrong he has a heart, and when he wants to show it, you see how good he could be but...
Grace shakes her head.
John: But he first needs to have a family that will teach him how to be that way.
Grace: Yeah. You know, he tries to make people believe that he only cares about money, but, well he doesn't. He just says that. Cause money has never hurt him. I know that is true because he asked me to hold onto his prize possession while he was in surgery. Guess what it was?
John: What?
Grace: A picture taken not long after he was born, of him with his twin brother.
John is surprised by this and tries not to show it.
John: Oh.
Grace nods
Grace: Yeah. Poor guy, he really could have used his brothers support right about now. But his brother died when he was an infant..
John just nods digesting this new information. Just then a nurse comes over.
Nurse: Excuse me. I just wanted to let both of you know that the transplant has been completed. It went very well, and Chris's new liver is working wonderfully.
Grace sighs with relief
Grace: Thank God.
John smiles
John: That's great news. How is Jake?
Nurse: He's fine. Both have been moved into recovery.
John: Wonderful.
Nurse: They will be in recovery for a while then both will be moved back to their rooms.
John: Thank you.
Nurse smiles and walks away.
Grace: So, you want me to sneak you in to see him?
John: Really? You can do that?
Grace smiles
Grace: After everything you did to help, it's the least I can do. Come on.
They head off. At the nurses station the phone rings.
Nurse: Six floor nurses station, how may I help you?
Matt disguises his voice.
Matt: Yes, I'm calling to check on a friend of mine who had surgery today. A Dr. Chris Ramsey?
Nurse smiles unknowingly.
Nurse: Oh your friend came through his surgery wonderfully! The new liver is working great. He's in recovery right now, and so far everything looks good.
Matt practically drops the phone in shock.
Matt: He, he made it?
Nurse: Yes, sir. Is there a problem?
Matt hangs up, nurse shrugs and hangs up. Matt angrily flings his phone across the room.
Matt: DAMNIT!! HOW THE HELL DID THAT SCUM BAG MAKE IT?! I GAVE HIM THE WRONG BLOOD!
Matt then remembers spotting Grace working near by when he went in the lab. His eyes narrow.
Matt: I warned that little pest about messing with me. She's going to pay for this. Right after I finish off Chris and that no account Eve I will make Grace regret the day she met me.
Matt leans back and shakes his head pure hate in his eyes.

Chris is sleeping peacefully in the recovery room when he begins dreaming. He is sitting in a hospital room holding a baby. Only the baby is his brother, and he can talk. He looks up at Chris and smiles
Baby: I helped you, now you help me. That's how it work, bro.
Chris murmurs in his sleep.
Chris: I'll help you.
The next bed over Jake is starting to wake up. John comes over to him and takes his hand in his.
John: You did it, cousin. Chris is alive, and will probably be just fine because of you.
Jake smiles
Jake: I'm glad. Did you call my Mom?
John: Yeah. Yeah, I did. I also called the bank and some other places. Jake she's in worse trouble then we thought. Creditors have started calling her, and the house may get for closed on.
Jake moans
Jake: Oh, no. I can't believe those con men took every penny. And there is no money left?
John: Aside from the small amount you sent last night no.
Jake shakes his head.
Jake: I don't have the kind of money to fix this.
John sighs heavily.
John: I'm sorry man.
Chris has been listening in as he drifts in and out. He begins muttering.
Chris: Jake saved my life. I have money, I will help.

Rhonda is waiting patently in Detective Garcia's office when he finally comes in.
Garcia: Sorry it took me so long. This place has been jumping today.
Rhonda tries to smiles
Rhonda: That's all right.
Garcia sighs and flops back in his chair.
Garcia: Rhonda I'm so sorry that Conway's kid is stirring all this garbage up again. I wish there was some way to stop her.
Rhonda takes a deep breath.
Rhonda: Well, I think I have a way.
Garcia looks at her surprised.
Garcia: Well, please tell me. I'd love to shut that floozy up.
Rhonda: I...I think the only way to do that, is, well is to give her what she wants. She, she wants someone to pay for her fathers death. So...so someone has to take the fall. That's, that's why I'm here. I've come to...
Just then they are interrupted by the door opening. Alan steps in having heard this last part.
Garcia: Alan, we're
Alan puts his hand up.
Alan: Rhonda is right, Garcia. The only way to rid her and Karen of this horrible reminder is if the killer takes the blame.
Rhonda quickly rushes on.
Rhonda: Yes, and that's why I'm here. I need to confess.
Alan: That you know who the killer is, right?
Rhonda: No. No, Alan, I'm, I'm the killer. I killed Ray Conway in self defense.
Alan is alarmed that Rhonda has just confessed to this and stairs at her amazed at her willingness to cover for the killer.
Garcia: Rhonda?!
Alan: No. No, Garcia she's just trying to cover for the real killer. Rhonda couldn't hurt a fly. She just doesn't want to see anyone punished. But the fact is someone has to be, and it should be the killer. That's why I'm here, I'm the killer, not Rhonda.
Garcia: Alan?!
Rhonda: NO! No, don't be ridiculous Alan, you weren't even there! It was me. I appreciate the effort but I have to take responsibility for my actions.
Alan: No Rhonda I do!
Rhonda and Alan are now both standing face to face squared off. Garcia stairs stunned at both of them and their doling confessions.

Julie Joe and Karen are all working at the nurses station.
Joe: So how about dinner at Mario's?
Karen smiles
Karen: Sounds perfect.
Joe: I thought you'd say that.
Karen then gives Joe a somewhat seductive smile and bats her eyes.
Karen: Then maybe we can go back to my place for some dessert.
Joe puts his file down and pulls her in close.
Joe: Mmm, I was really hoping you'd suggest that.
They both laugh then kiss. Just then Shelly dressed in a red hot dress that lets just about all of her cleavage show, and is so tight you can practically see the outline of her rib cage, and so short you can almost see her underpants saunters up.
Shelly: Hey, you seen Frank Scanlon, around here?
Karen: Oh, no.
Joe: What the?
Julie sighs
Julie: No, I haven't.
Karen whispers to Joe.
Karen: That's the girl Frank was flirting with before.
Joe: My brother the boy scout was flirting with that?!
Karen: Shh.
Shelly: Yeah, well, he said to meet him here.
Julie takes a deep breath trying not to show her annoyance.
Julie: Well then I'm sure he'll show up.
Just then Frank and Emilo come off the elevator and head over to the nurses station. Shelly turns flahes Frank a smile and throws herself on him.
Shelly: Hey, Frankie baby!
Frank gives Julie a look then smiles at Shelly and kisses her cheek.
Frank: Just what the Dr. ordered. So you ready to hit the town.
Shelly bats her eyes puts her arms around his neck and smiles sensually.
Shelly: As long as it ends at my place.
Joe drops his file loudly part in shock part trying to stop what's happening. Everyone looks up. Julie looks fit to be tied. She looks over to Emilo who is innocently checking his messages.
Julie: Emilo?!
Emilo looks up startled.
Emilo: Yeah?
Julie: You want to get some dinner?
Emilo: Uh, well,
Julie: Great lets go!
She grabs a stunned Emilo by the hand and practically drags him off. But not before she sees Frank angrily pull Shelly close and kiss her.
Julie: AND THEN MAYBE WE'LL GO DANCING!
Emilo: Uh...
Julie continues to drag Emilo off. Frank practically pulls Shelly into the elevator. Shelly just shakes her head and rolls her eyes. Karen and Joe just stair at each other in disbelief.
Joe: I cannot believe my brother is acting like a teenager. Even as a teen he never acted like one!
Karen: And what about Julie?! She's playing the oldest game in the book! Heck they both are!
Joe: They are systematically killing their relationship!
Karen: At first the problem wasn't that huge, now it's turned into a monster with a life of it's own!
Joe sighs and shakes his head.
Joe: I hate this.
Karen: Same here. Do you think we should put our plans on hold and try to help them?
Joe shakes his head.
Joe: I don't think they can do much more damage tonight. Besides we need to relax and regroup before we even try to help the self distructing duo.
Karen nods in agreement.
Karen: I am so thankful we have a healthy relationship.
Joe pulls her in close.
Joe: You and me both.
They kiss tenderly.
Scott is sitting in the middle of his ransacked living room drinking down beers. He's already finished two six packs and is on his third beer from the third six pack. The phone begins to ring. Scott ignores it. Soon the machine picks up.
Eve: Scott? Scott, are you there? It's Eve.
Scott holds the beer up in the air.
Scott: The whore of the year calls!
He belches and flings an empty beer can at the machine then takes another swig of beer.
Eve: I guess you aren't. Listen, I'm sorry about last night. I fell asleep here at the hospital and when I woke up my cell phone wasn't working and I had to get ready for Chris's surgery.
Scott: Oh yeah sleeping, give me a break! You were showing him all the nasty moves your Daddy taught you!
Eve: Anyway he came through the surgery fine, but we did have an emergency during the operation, and I don't feel comfortable leaving him alone.
Scott: Oh he needs to get laid some more, huh?!
Eve: So I'm going to spend the night, I'll explain what happened when I see you. I'll be home tomorrow morning as early as possible. I have the day off so we can spend it together.
Scott: Hah! The only thing you're doing tomorrow is moving out you bitch!
Eve: Bye, I love you.
Scott flings an unopened six pack across the room smashing it against the wall.
Scott: You don't know a damn thing about love!
He belches loudly.
Scott: You come here, you make us trust you, you make me love you, you get into our lives, and now you stab us in the back! Now you try and hurt my family! Well, you're going to pay!!
He gets up stumbles to the machine and sends it flying across the room then shattering through a window.
Scott then grabs a framed picture of him, Eve, Serena, and Karen and proceeds to throw it on the floor and jump up and down on it. He then vomits, stumbles to the couch and passes out. Back at the hospital Eve goes into Chris's room and sits by his side. Jill is in there checking his vitals.
Jill: Everything looks good Dr. His liver is working nicely and there is no sign of infection.
Eve smiles
Eve: Thank God.
Jill: Have you called the police?
Eve: Yes, and Matt is going to learn very quickly what happens when you mess with someone I care about.
Jill nods and leaves. Eve sits down next to Chris and takes his hand in hers.
Eve: Hey, roomie you made it.
Chris opens his eye's still half asleep.
Chris: I made it?
Eve: You sure did. And as soon as you get out of here I'm buying you a martini to celebrate.
Chris: No. No, I'm buying you one. You are my gardein angel.
Chris falls back asleep. Eve has tears in her eyes deeply touched by his words. She squeezes his hand in hers.
Eve: You're not so bad yourself Ramsey.
She kisses his hand gently, then just watches him sleep a little surprised by just how relieved and happy she feels.
Garcia takes a deep breath as he looks from Rhonda to Alan and back to Alan.
Garcia: Okay, look you two...
Alan: Garcia I did this. I am the guilty party she knows it, she's just trying to cover up for me.
Rhonda: No Garcia, don't listen to him! I killed Ray Conway in self defense, he's just trying to protect me.
Garcia sighs
Garcia: Will both of you please calm down for a minute, okay? Look, that Ray Conway was pure scum and off the record I don't want to arrest anyone for his murder. I know this news article has upset you both, and I know you both want it swept under the rug, but this is not how to accomplish it. The fact is we have no usable evidence. All of the evidence has been tampered with, so no one is in danger. Rhonda, I am certain you are innocent because you were so badly hurt there is no way you could have killed him. Alan, if you did kill Ray because you found him beating Rhonda, off the record good for you, keep your mouth shut and this will pass. Now I'm not excepting either of your confessions, so leave before somebody heres you.
Both stair at Garcia.
Garcia: Now!
Both jump
Rhonda: Okay, okay.
Alan: I'll, I'll walk you out. Thank you detective.
Garcia: You welcome.
They leave Garcia flops back in his chair and sighs.
Garcia: I know you did this Alan, but Donely was like a father to me, and he protected you, so I'm going to do the same.
Matt is at home reading when the door bell rings. Matt sighs heavily and goes to the door. He finds three cops on the other side of the door.
Matt: Can I help you?
Officer1: Are you Dr. Matt Harmen?
Matt: Yes, I am.
Officer2: We have a warrant here for your arrest for the attempted murder of Dr. Christopher Ramsey.
Matt is shocked
Matt: What?! This, this is out ragus!
Officer3: Dr. Harmen I suggest you cooperate with us, you'll only be making things harder on yourself.
Officer one steps in and begins hand cuffing a stunned Matt.
Officer2: You have the right to remain silent, anything you do or say can and will be used against you in a court of law, you have the right to an attorney if you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you free of charge. Do you understand these rights?
Matt: Yes.
Matt is then dragged from the apartment as he murmurs under his breath with pure hate in his eyes..
Matt: I don't know if Grace or Eve is responsible for this, but when I find out who is they will pay.
