Sins Of The Father

*************************************************************************************************This
story begins in July of 98 right before Kevin and Lucy's wedding. Several
things are different though. Eve and Lucy are not enemies in this story
they are friends. So obviously Serena never got hurt. General Homicide
is not happening. Frank never fell from the room so DL-56 is not going
on either. Lark went to a different foster home, and Devlin took a job
in CA so neither of them are in this story. Also Neil and Courtney never
came to town. Eve and Scott are still dating and very inlove. Frank and
Julie, and Joe and Karen are still all on course. Okay I think that's enough
back ground so without further udo lets get to the story :-)
**************************************************************************************************
The sun streams in through Lucy's hotel window. Lucy rolls over
and smiles as she stretches. She gets out of bed and goes to the window.
She looks out at the beautiful summer day and sighs
Lucy: Ah yes the perfect day for a wedding. Oh my gosh! It's really
here it's really here!
Jus then Sigmond comes waddling in. Lucy runs to him and scoops
him up
Sigmond: Quack!
Lucy: Oh Sigmond you know what today is don't you!
Sigmond: Quack!
Lucy happily sits him on the bed looks at him as she strokes him.
Lucy: Yes, yes today is the day I merry my Doc! Yes, today we become
man and wife!
Sigmond flaps his wings and quacks again
Lucy: Oh my gosh you're right I need to start getting ready! Oh
and I have to get you ready to!
Lucy grabs Sigmond
Sigmond: Quack!
Lucy: Oh now you just calm down I don't want you getting thrown
out of here with all your noise.
Lucy takes him into the bathroom with her.
Lucy: Oh Siggy I've waited my whole life to find a man like Kevin.
And it seems as if I've been waiting for this day for just as long. But
now here it is we're getting married. And this will be my last wedding
Sigmond mark my words. Lucy suddenly feels a wave of naushesness come over
her and holds onto the sink
Lucy: What? Oh no I can't be sick! No no not today of all days!
I'm about to merry my Doc I can't be sick!
Suddenly the feeling is gone
Lucy: Oh good it's gone. Whew the last thing I need is to be throwing
up as I walk down the ile. I mean, sure they say through sickness and in
health but it's not a good idea to start the sickness part on your wedding
day. But that sure was strange in just came on so fast and then went away
just as fast. I haven't felt like that since. . .
Lucy's eyes grow wide
Lucy: Oh My Gosh! Could I be? Well, I mean I guess I could be right?
Sigmond: Quack?
Lucy: Pregnant Sigmond! Could I be pregnant!
Lucy takes a deep breath
Lucy: No no don't get yourself all excited it's not worth it. You
have been down this road before it's probably nothing at all.
Lucy looks at Sigmond
Lucy: Right? Right. Okay on with the day we have a lot to do and
not a minute to loose.
Lucy begins getting ready.
Kevin is groggily gets out of bed and goes into the bathroom and
looks at himself in the mirror. A smile spreads across his face
Kevin: Today is the day you merry Lucy. Yes, Kevin Collins you are
a lucky man.
Kevin gets in the shower and begins getting ready. After showering
and starting to get dressed he hears a commotion down stairs
Kevin: What on earth?
Kevin goes down stairs and finds Mary and Victor in the kitchen
food everywhere.
Victor: Ah well if it isn't the man of the hour!
Mary: Oh Kevin congratulations!
Mary hugs him. Victor comes over and hugs him as well
Victor: Yes today is truly a spectacular day. You merry your true
soulmate and I get to become that amazing woman's father in law.
Victor wipes a tear from his face Mary smiles
Mary: Oh yes it is truly a blessed day.
Kevin smiles
Kevin: Thankyou and I couldn't agree more. I am truly blessed. So
what is all this?
Kevin indicates the food.
Mary: Oh your father wanted to make you a wedding day breakfast.
Victor: Well, you certainly can't get married on an empty stomach.
Mary: Oh most certainly not. If nothing else you need your stomach
calm.
Victor nods in agreement.
Kevin smiles
Kevin: You didn't have to
Victor: Non sense you are my son and this is the most important
day of your life thus far. I am not about to let you out of this house
without a good meal.
Mary takes Kevin's hand and pulls him towards the table
Mary: Now you just sit right here and let us serve you
Victor: Yes breakfast is ready and as you'll note
Victor points to a clock
Victor: We are on a schedule.
Mary and Victor begin filling Kevin's plate high with pancakes,
eggs, sausage, and grapefruit. Kevin just smiles and shakes his head.
Victor: Now come on eat up we don't have all day.
Mary: Oh yes we can't be late. Tell you what why don't I go and
lay your tux out.
Kevin: Mary
Victor: Oh that would be great Mary my sweet.
They kiss and Mary races up stairs. Victor smiles watching her go.
He sighs and shakes his head.
Victor: It amazes me that she wants to be in my life but as long
as she does I will never complain.
Kevin smiles
Kevin: Well why wouldn't she.You aren't so bad
Victor nods
Victor: I may not be so bad but my Mary is perfect.
Kevin shakes his head
Kevin: You really are inlove with her aren't you
Victor blushes.
Victor: What's not to love.
Kevin: Well I wish you luck. There is nothing like true love.
Victor smiles
Victor: Well, thank you and I wish you luck to. I know you've been
waiting a long time for this day to come
Kevin: In some ways it feels like I've been waiting for this day
since I was born. You know before Lucy I really wasn't alive.
Victor nods
Victor: I know the feeling. Before Mary I didn't know just how wonderful
love could be.
Kevin holds up his orange juice
Kevin: To love
Victor: To love
They clink glasses and continue to eat.
Eve is doing her hair when Scott comes in and wraps his arms around
her waist and berries his face in her neck. Eve smiles and puts down the
hair dryer. She then turns around to him and puts her arms around him.
Eve: Well goodmorning Mr. Baldwin and how may I help you?
Scott smiles devilishly as he pulls her near.
Scott: Oh well I've got this little problem with my mouth that I
need you to check on.
Eve laughs
Eve: Oh really?
Scott: Yeah see all it wants to do is kiss you.
Eve smiles
Eve: Oh I see well that really should be looked into. I mean, for
medical reasons of course
Scott: Oh of course
Scott pulls her close and they kiss tenderly
Scott: So what's the verdict Dr.?
Just then they here Serena calling
Serena: Hey Eve can you help me with my hair?
They both sigh
Eve: The verdict is this conversation is going to have to wait until
after the wedding.
Scott groans Eve laughs
Eve: Look at it this way it's something to look forward to.
Serena: Eve?
Eve: Coming
Eve smiles and heads out. Scott sighs. Eve goes to Serena's room
and starts helping her with her hair.
Eve: So you all ready to be Lucy and Kevin's flower girl?
Serena: Definitely! Lucy showed me her dress it's so cool. And my
friend Maxie and her sister Goergie will be there since it's double wedding.
That's going to be awesome.
Eve laughs
Eve: It's certainly a big day huh.
Serena nods
Serena: Yeah, oh and Sigmond is going to bring the ring down the
ile in a little basket.
Eve: Well that should be interesting.
Serena: Hey Eve do you think you and Dad might get married.
Eve is shocked by Serena's question
Eve: Well I I don't know Serena. What made you ask that?
Serena shrugs
Serena: Well Dad loves you and you love him don't you?
Eve: Oh very much Serena your Dad is the best thing that has ever
happened to me.
Serena: Well isn't that what people inlove do?
Eve considers this
Eve: Well sometimes but you know Serena I'm not sure your Dad is
interested in getting married again.
Serena: Because of Mom?
Eve nods
Eve: He loved her very much and sometimes when you love someone
that much even though you can love again well you might not want to merry
again.
Serena nods
Serena: Would you want to?
Eve thinks
Eve: Yeah, yeah if your Dad wanted to merry me I'd definitely merry
him. But I just don't think he's sure that that's what he wants.
Scott who has been quietly listening at the door smiles and retrieves
a box out of his suit pocket he opens it and stairs at a beautiful diamond
ring.
Scott: Oh I'm sure all right and today is the day I'm letting you
know.
Scott puts the ring back in his pocked smiles and goes back to his
room.
Frank is down stairs making some eggs when Joe comes down.
Joe: Hey those smell good
Frank: Hey, want some
Joe: Sure
Joe takes some eggs and they sit down at the table. Just then Julie
calls down from upstairs
Julie: Frank can you make one of your great breakfasts to go for
me I'm not going to have time to eat.
Frank smiles and shakes his head
Frank: One breakfast to go for my favorite lady
Karen yells down
Karen: Any chance I can get one two?
Frank: Sure why not.
Julie: Thanks honey
Karen: Thanks Frank
Frank: Your welcome
Frank goes over and begins assembling two home made sausage, egg
and cheese sandwiches. Joe comes over
Joe: Here Karen is my girlfriend so let me give you a hand.
Frank smiles
Frank: Thanks
Joe: I guess we should have known huh
They both chuckle
Frank: If they weren't running late it wouldn't be them.
Joe nods
Joe: Yep I guess not. But I do hope we are on time. I mean, there
is nothing worse then walking into a wedding late.
Frank: True and Kevin is not only our friend but with the way his
Dad and our Mom have been dating well
Joe: He could become family
Frank nods
Joe: You really think Mom might re merry?
Frank shrugs
Frank: Why not? I mean, you're never to old for love and Victor
does treat her well.
Joe: Yeah Victor is a nice guy and Mom does deserve to be happy.
Lord knows Dad never did.
Frank: Yeah the only thing he made us was black and blue.
Joe nods grimly. Frank continues on his own track
Frank: And to be perfectly honest I kind of like the idea of having
a big brother. Which is what Kevin would be if they get married.
Frank notices Joe is not listen
Frank: Hey Joe everything okay
Joe: What? Oh yeah yeah Kevin would make a great big brother. It's
just well Frank I've been kind of meaning to talk to you about something
Frank: Okay what?
Joe: Well, you know how you and Julie are always talking about honesty
and how the issue of honesty almost broke up your relationship last summer?
Frank nods
Frank: Yeah
Frank laughs
Frank: Can you imagine Julie's dad a plumber? I don't know where
she came up with that story!
Frank shakes his head remembering as he chuckles.
Joe smiles
Joe: Yeah she has quite the imagination
Frank: Yeah, I think her imagination has helped her deal with a
lot of the stuff in her life.
Joe nods
Joe: Probably.
Frank: So what about it?
Joe: Well, don't you think it's time you were completely honest
with her two?
Frank looks at Joe confused
Frank: What do you mean?
Joe sighs
Joe: Come on Frank you and I both know your knee injury had nothing
to do with foot ball.
Frank: That is not true
Joe: Frank you bearly sprained it! If you can't admit it to Julie
at least admit it to yourself. You aren't playing foot ball cause Dad put
a bullet in your knee and you know it!
Frank: Would you keep your voice down. I don't want Julie to hear
you.
Joe sighs
Joe: Frank I'm sorry I know it's a difficult thing for you to talk
about. Believe me it's tough on me to. I was there remember I ended up
in the hospital on many occasions because of that man. The only difference
really between what he did to me and what he did to you is that you lost
your dreams because of it.
Frank: Well thanks for reminding me
Joe sighs
Joe: Frank look I'm sorry but you and Julie have already had your
relationship nearly broken once because of secrets, I just would hate to
see it broken again.
Frank sighs
Frank: Joe it's not like a tone of people know, or like I've ever
told any of my girlfriends
Joe: You've never been in a relationship this seareus before Frank.
Come on you and Julie are practically married. Don't you think she deserves
the truth?
Frank sighs and shakes his head
Frank: Why so she can pity me? So she can look at me and see a man
whose on father beat him and nearly killed him. When Julie looks at me
I feel like I'm somebody Joe. I feel like I'm a success not just the little
battered Scanlon kid.
Tears are in Franks eyes Joe rests his hand on Frank's arm
Joe: Frank no one sees you like that anymore. No one sees either
of us like that.
Frank: So what are you telling me Joe. That you've told Karen everything
and she doesn't look at you differently?
Joe takes a deep breath
Joe: Karen knows we were abused. She doesn't know quite how bad
or all the details but she knows we were abused. And no she doesn't look
at me differently. And I know as sure as I'm standing here that Julie wouldn't
look at you differently either.
Frank takes a deep breath
Frank: Maybe, but I'm just not ready to talk to her about this yet.
Joe: Look Frank no one is saying you have to make a full disclosure
okay. She doesn't need to know every detail but I think she should know
that we were abused and the real reason you can't play foot ball anymore.
Frank: Why Joe? So she can worry that if we ever got married and
have kids that I might repeat his mistakes
Joe: Oh come on Frank anyone who knows you knows that wouldn't happen
Frank: Look I appreciate what you're saying okay and I'll think
about it. Now can we please change the subject. How are things with you
and Karen?
Joe smiles
Joe: Oh wonderful
Frank smiles
Frank: Well, that's what I like to hear. You deserve to be happy
Joe.
Joe: So do you Frank. And speaking of being happy you want to see
what I got Karen?
Frank: Sure
Joe pulls out a little box and shows him the diamond inside.
Frank: Joe that's an
Joe: Engagement ring. Tonight I ask the woman I love to spend her
life with me.
Frank smiles
Frank: Congratulations
The brothers hug
Frank: So you are going to ask her after the wedding?
Joe nods
Joe: Yeah, I figure what better time to pop the question then right
after a wedding.
Frank nods
Frank: I'm happy for you Joe this is wonderful
Frank smiles
Frank: Thanks I think it is pretty great.
Joe puts the ring back in his pocket.
Joe: So any plans for you and Julie?
Frank laughs
Frank: No not yet. I mean, I love her and all but I don't think
we're quite ready. I wish we were but she is really dedicated to her career.
Joe: And what you can't have both a career and marriage? Better
not tell Karen that.
Frank: Hey believe me I don't agree, but I don't want to risk loosing
her you know. I mean, at least by waiting I get to have her in my life.
Joe nods
Joe: Make sense
Frank: Well I'm going to take these up to the girls.
Frank starts off with the breakfast sandwiches. Joe just watches
and sighs. Then pulls out the ring and stairs at it.
Joe: Well, Karen today is the day I hope you like it
Joe smiles and shoves it back in his pocket.
Karen and Julie are just about done getting ready as they nibble
on their food.
Karen: Wow I never new Frank had such fast food talent
They both laugh
Julie: That's my guy, he makes a Mcmuffen sandwich that puts Micdonalds
to shame.
Julie smile's proudly and they laugh.
Karen: So I take it things are going good with you and Frank?
Julie smiles and nods
Julie: Yeah, I guess
Karen looks at Julie questioningly
Karen: Uh oh, that doesn't sound all that good what's wrong?
Julie sighs
Julie: Oh nothing just my own stupid fears and big mouth have once
again screwed up my relationship with Frank.
Karen: Oh no Julie what happend? You and Frank didn't have a fight
did you?
Julie: Oh no no nothing like that. It's just well
Karen: Well what?
Julie sighs
Julie: Last December Frank and I were really moving along nicely.
We were completely falling for each other and moving towards what seemed
like something really big.
Karen: And you aren't now?
Julie: Karen we aren't even moving!
Karen: Why not?
Julie: Because of me as usual.
Karen: I don't understand.
Julie: Karen Frank is the first man I have ever truly loved. I had
never felt such strong feelings before and never wanted someone so badly
and it scared me. I mean, really scared me. I mean, here I am working on
becoming a doctor and maybe finely making my Dad proud of me and suddenly
I'm faced with something I never even new I wanted. But something more
wonderful then anything I have ever imagined. I was falling in love with
a man that I new and still know without a doubt is the man I want to be
with for the rest of my life.
Karen: Julie that's wonderful and it's only natural to be scared.
Julie: But what isn't natural is to shoot yourself in the foot!
Karen looks at Julie not understanding.
Julie: Karen I freaked out and instead of welcoming this wonderful
situation I shoved it away like it was trash. I told Frank I wasn't ready
for anything seareus. I told him I wanted to focus on my career and not
on us. I didn't want to move to fast.
Karen: Oh Julie what did Frank say?
Julie sighs
Julie: Come on Karen you've known him your whole life. What do you
think Saint Frank said. He said oh Julie I understand and I'd never push
you. I feel the same way we'll take it slow.
Karen: Well isn't that good?
Julie: At first it was, I mean at first everything was perfect.
But now
Julie shakes her head
Julie: Instead of our relationship growing it has basically stopped.
I mean, sure we say how much we love each other but
Julie shakes her head
Karen: But you're ready for the next step?
Julie: I would give anything to merry that man Karen. Heck I would
have given anything back then to have married him! But I was a stupid scared
chicken.
Karen: Well can't you just talk to him about this?
Julie: I don't know. I mean, at first I thought I could talk to
him but now I'm not sure. He seems so comfortable and happy with our relationship
the way it is I'm afraid I'll loose him.
Karen: You know Julie you seem very comfortable and happy to. If
you hadn't told me this I would have had no idea. Maybe he is acting this
way for the same reason you are. Maybe he's scared of loosing you.
Julie sighs
Julie: Maybe, but what that's not it. What if he's truly happy like
this? I could loose him.
Karen sighs
Karen: You know Julie there is another way you could loose him
Julie: What do you mean?
Karen: If he is ready he may get tired of waiting. And if he gets
tired of waiting he may decide to move on. Frank isn't the kind of guy
who would force your hand. So rather then make you feel like you're under
pressure he may just give you your freedom. And if that isn't what you
want then you both will have lost big time.
Julie considers this
Julie: So what do I do?
Karen: Talk to him. Tell him how you feel and what you want. Let
him know how much you love him. Look Joe is coming over to my place tonight
after the wedding, so you'll have plenty of time alone with Frank to talk
to him.
Julie: And you really think I should?
Karen: Yes, definitely. Communication is vital in a relationship.
Julie nods
Karen: Look I know you're scared but if there is anything I know
it's that not talking about things sometimes ends up hurting you more then
talking about them.
Julie looks at Karen closely
Julie: I guess you have a lot of things in your past you wish you'd
talked about
Karen nods and takes a deep breath.
Karen: It could have made a difference in my life if I hadn't hidden
things yes I think so.
Julie: I'm sorry Karen, I can't even imagine what your past must
have been like.
Karen: Be grateful you can't.
Julie: I am. Uh Karen may I ask you a question?
Karen smiles
Karen: You are my best friend Julie you can ask me anything.
Julie: Well, uh did they ever find that guy? The one that hurt you?
I mean, he is in jail isn't he?
Karen takes a deep breath
Karen: No Ray is dead. He was murdered not long after I confronted
him about what happened.
Julie: Wow. Well I guess it couldn't have happened to a more deserving
guy.
Karen: I certainly didn't shed any tears.
Julie: Did they ever find out who killed him?
Karen: No and hopefully they won't. They gave up looking pretty
quick actually. I mean, no one really wanted to catch this creep after
what he did. And the guys family if he had any never surfaced to press
the cops to do anything.
Julie nods
Julie: I guess that's just as well. So speaking of communication
does Joe know about what Ray did?
Karen nods
Karen: Yeah he knows. I mean, he doesn't know all the details but
he has the basics. As much as he really needs to know.
Julie nods
Julie: I'm surprised the Scanlon's never picked up on it when you
were a kid. I mean, I don't know much about their father but if he was
anything like them you'd think he'd have seen what was going on.
Karen tries to hide her surprise at this comment.
Karen: Well, sometimes things aren't always obvious. Uh Julie what
has Frank told you about his childhood?
Julie shrugs
Julie: Not much. I mean, I know his father worked very hard and
was very stricked. And he was very proud of Frank. Frank told me how proud
his father was of him being a foot ball star. I know he thinks his father
drank a lot because of Frank's foot ball injury. But I really don't think
that could have been the only reason.
I always picture FrankSr., being a lot like Frank.
Karen swallows hard
Karen: Uh what foot ball injury are you referring to?
Julie: Oh you know his knee injury. You know when that line backer
talkeled him and his knee was injured. I often wonder how that line backer
feels. I mean, I'm sure he knows he ended Frank's career.
Karen: Uh yeah being responsible for someone's pain is dreadful
I'm sure.
Just then Frank calls up
Frank: Hey ladies we need to get moving
Julie: Coming
Karen: Be right down
They grab their purses and head out.
A young girl with dark hair sunglasses and some noticeable scars
on her face gets off the bus. She goes over to a pay phone and dials a
number.
Woman: Hello?
Girl: Hi Mom it's me just wanted to let you know I arrived okay
in Port Charles.
Mom: I still don't understand why you would want to go there.
Girl: Well for starters my sister is here and I've missed her. And
furthermore I've got a bone or two to pick with the so called Police Department
here.
Mom: Oh please don't go stirring up trouble honey it's not worth
it.
Girl: Mom someone in this town killed our father and your ex boyfriend
but as of yet no one has been charged.
Mom: And maybe they shouldn't be. Sweet heart he was hardly a good
man. He abandoned you and your sister when you girls were just babies.
He never tried to make any contact with either of you or send us a single
dime.
Girl sighs
Girl: Look I'm not saying he was a good person But Mom Dad was murdered
that's not okay. And I'm sick and tired of sitting around acting like it
is. Now I have to go I'll call you later.
The girl then grabs the yellow pages and starts flipping through
them. She finely finds what she's looking for and scribbles down and address.
Then picking up her suitcase heads off.
Jake sits sadly on his couch talking on the phone.
Jake: I just can't believe he's gone. I mean, I just saw him a few
months ago and he was so full of life. He seemed so healthy!
John: I'm sorry man. I can't imagine what I'd do if my Dad passed
away like that. How is Aunt Marta doing?
Jake sighs
Jake: She's okay, pretty devastated though. I mean, her and Dad
were married for 30 years now all the sudden he's gone.
Jake sighs sadly and rubs his face
Jake: I guess the one consolation we have is that he went in his
sleep.
John: Yeah he didn't suffer and he was happy and active right up
to the end. Wasn't feeling bad at all.
Jake: Nope not at all. He'd just gotten back from a big fishing
trip and was so proud of all the fish he'd caught. I remember he called
me bragging about it.
John laughs
John: When it came to fishing uncle Paul was really a big kid wasn't
he.
Jake: Yeah he was my best friend
Jake's voice cracks
John: Hey man I'm sorry I don't mean to bring up painful memories
I just wanted to call and check on you.
Jake: No, no it's okay I appreciate it. It helps to talk, besides
I like remembering him. It's like Aunt Rose said at the funeral the best
way to honor him is to honor the memories.
John: Yeah, that's true. So what are you up to?
Jake sighs
Jake: Well, Mama is selling that big old desk in the basement of
his so she needed it cleaned out. But of course she couldn't bring herself
to do it and since she never did handle any of the business in the family
she asked if I'd handle it. So I brought all the stuff in his desk back
with me and now I'm about to go through it.
John: Sounds like quite a task.
Jake: Yeah, but it's got to be done.
John: Just don't push yourself to hard okay. It doesn't have to
be done in a rush.
Jake: Don't worry I'll be fine.
John: Okay, well I have to go but I'll be home later on this after
noon if you want to talk okay.
Jake: Okay thanks for everything John
John: Hey that's what cousins are for.
Jake half smiles
Jake: Bye
John: Bye
They hang up. Jake sighs and rubs his tired tear stained face. Then
taking a big deep breath he goes over to the mountain of papers on his
desk sits down and begins going through them.
Jake: Yawsers did Dad keep every piece of mail he ever got?
Suddenly one document catches his eye.
Jake: What's this?
Jake begins reading.
Jake: This is some sort of legal document but a lot of it has been
covered up with ink.
Jake looks closer
Jake: This document now notarized here by states that the baby boy
adoptee will from this point on will be known as Jake Marshak
Jake gasps as what he has just read sinks in
Jake: What the?!
Jake scans the document and and starts going through other papers.
He finds a letter addressed to his mother.
Jake: Dear Mr. and Mrs. Marshak
We are pleased to inform you that your request to adopt has been
approved and we have found a healthy male for you. He was born Augest 4
and weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces. He is a healthy Caucasian. His parents right
have been terminated and we think he would do very well in your home.
Jake stops reading and sits back the color gone from his face
Jake: I'm adopted
Grace is working at the nurses station. Ellen, Monica and Audry
are talking near by.
Audry: Oh Ellen that ring is simply exquized!
Monica: Matt does have excellent taste.
Ellen smiles proudly as she shows off her ring.
Ellen: Isn't it beautiful. I still can't believe he asked me to
merry him!
Monica: And over the hospital intercom no less.
They all three laugh
Ellen: Well I could have rung his neck for that but yes it is wonderful.
Audry: Well I think it was simply wonderful. It did this hospital
and it's patients a great deal of good to hear such romance. You know they
say love is the greatest healer.
Ellen: Well, Matt certainly has healed me. The love I've known with
him is something I never dreamed possible after Sam.
Monica: I know it was hard for you after Sam died.
Audry: Yes it's great to see you so happy Ellen
Ellen smiles
Ellen: Well it's great to be so happy. We are truly and completely
inlove and I couldn't be more thrilled.
The three some walk off still talking. Grace watches them go and
sighs. Nurse Jill walks up to her
Jill: Hey you okay?
Grace: What? Oh yeah I'm fine why?
Jill: Well I know how much you care about Matt and how disappointed
you were when he chose Ellen. It must be hard for you watching her knowing
she has what you want?
Grace shakes her head.
Grace: Every woman who has a man has what I want right now Jill.
You know I'm happy for Matt and Ellen I really am. They worked so hard
to get together and they both do deserve to be happy. But sometimes
Grace shakes her head sadly
Grace: Sometimes I get so sick and tired of everyone else having
love and there being none for me. I just want to scream sometimes you know.
What about me? When is it my turn?
Jill nods sympathetically
Jill: I know what you mean. It's never easy being alone.
Grace: And the older you get the harder it is. I know it sounds
silly for me to say that. I mean I'm only 27 but I can't even remember
the last time a guy said I love you to me. I really thought it was going
to happen with Matt you know. I really did but I guess I was wrong again.
Grace shakes her head
Grace: I'm starting to think it just never will.
Grace picks up a file and goes to check on a patient. Jill watches
her go and shakes her head sadly.
Chris is driving along changing the radio stations in frustration.
Chris: Dammit! Is there nothing but love songs on this thing!
Chris shuts it off.
Chris: I am so sick and tired of hearing about love, about couples,
about forever, about meant to be, about weddings, about rings, about the
future. It's all nothing but a bunch of garbage! Why anyone would want
to put their heart out there just to get it stepped on is beyond me! I
mean, come on love doesn't work! It just doesn't. When has it ever worked
for me. Oh sure it would be nice to have someone that would love me. Sure
It would be great to grow old with someone. But it's just a fairy tale.
No one is ever going to love me! I've excepted it okay!
He slams his fist against the steering wheel.
Chris: So why the hell is it all around me! Sure I want it but I
can't get it!
Just then Chris sees a huge van swerving over into his lane at top
speed
Chris: WHAT THE
The van smashes head on into Chris's car. Chris car lurches backwards
from the impact and his hit again from behind by another car. A fire begins
burning under Chris's car's hood. As Chris lays unconscious inside the
car still hooked into his safety belt.
Mac and Kevin are getting ready in a room in the front of the church.
Mac: So this is the big day mate.
Kevin nods and smiles
Kevin: Yep today I merry the woman of my dreams. It's hard to believe
just a few years ago I didn't believe in love at all. Now I'm ready to
sing it's praises from every roof top.
Mac: I know what you mean. I was always a loner. You know your typical
don't need anyone, free wheeling rebel. But then I met Felica
Mac smiles and shakes his head.
Mac: I can't even put into words how she makes me feel.
Kevin smiles
Kevin: I know what you mean. I was always to busy for love. You
know I felt that I was above it. That I didn't need it. I always put my
work first. Never had time for friends and certainly not for love.
Kevin smiles
Kevin: Then I came to Port Charles and that all changed. I got a
best friend and found my soulmate.
Mac: Well, life leads you to where you need to be.
Kevin laughs
Kevin: Since when did you start believing that?
Mac gets a thoughtful look on his face.
Mac: Since everything in my life started making sense. I really
do owe Felica a lot.
Kevin: Tell me about it. I could spend my life waiting on her hand
and foot, give her everything and then some, lay my life down for her and
I'd still feel I hadn't paid her back for all she's done for me.
Mac nods
Mac: We certainly are lucky aren't we? I mean, if you've got to
have a dept. well I can't imagine one sweeter then this.
Kevin smiles
Kevin: Yes it is a pretty great dept. isn't it.
Kevin looks at his watch
Kevin: Well I'd say it's just about time.
Mac: Yep I think so. So you ready to merry Lucy?
Kevin: I think I was born ready
Mac: Yeah I can't wait to merry Felica.
They smile both over joyed at what is about to happen.
In the back room of the church Felica and Lucy get ready.
Lucy: Oh wow I can't believe this is really it! I'm about to merry
my Doc!
Serena: You look like a princess Lucy.
Lucy smiles and hugs Serena
Lucy: Oh thank you pumpkin head so do you.
Serena smiles
Maxie: Wow Mom that dress is so glamorous.
Goergie: Mommy pretty
Felica: Oh thank you both your such sweet hearts. Come here girls
group hug
The three of them hug.
Lucy: Oh boy
Lucy looks really pale all of the sudden and sits down
Serena: Mom what's wrong?
Felica comes over
Felica: Lucy are you okay?
Lucy: Yeah, yeah I'm fine. You know I think I must be coming down
with something. I've been feeling noshes off and on all day. Boy oh boy
what a day to be getting sick.
Felica: Maxie honey get Lucy some water please. Do you want me to
get Kevin?
Maxie brings Lucy a glass of water.
Lucy: Thanks. No, no it's okay it will pass. See I'm feeling better
already. You know I think it's probably the excitement of the day or something.
Lucy gets up and starts finishing getting ready.
Felica: It is a pretty exciting day. I can't believe I'm finely
merrying Mac. I mean, we tried this once before and it was a disaster.
Lucy turns and takes her friends hands.
Lucy: Oh but I just know today is going to be perfect for the two
of you. Nothing is going to go wrong. You know I just feel it today is
going to be wonderful.
Felica smiles
Felica: Thanks, and how about you you are finely merrying Kevin.
Lucy: I know I have to keep pinching myself to make sure I'm not
dreaming. You know it's so funny I've already been married several times
but in all honesty I feel like today is my first real wedding. You know
where everything is just right.
Felica nods
Felica: Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been married before to
and I've tried to make it work with Mac before. But you know what now today
is the first time I have no doubts no fears and only a feeling of joy.
Lucy: Oh same here. I just know today will be my last marriage.
This time I have finely gotten it right.
Felica smiles
Felica: Same here.
They hug then look at the clock
Lucy: Oh boy it's time
Felica nods
Felica: lets get this show on the road.
The group heads out.
Side by side Maxie, Georgie, and Serena walk down the ile. Then
as Mac and Kevin watch expectantly from the front of the church Lucy, and
Felica walk down the ile. Mac takes Felica's hands in his and smiles
Mac Hi
Felica: Hi
Mac: So you want to get married?
Felica laughs
Felica: Why not I don't have anything else to do today.
Everyone laughs. Kevin and Lucy smile at each other as they hold
one another's hands
Kevin: I love you Lucy Coe more then you'll ever know.
Lucy: Oh well Doc it couldn't be anywhere near as much as I love
you.
Minister: Are well all ready?
Everyone nods
Minister: We are gathered here in the presence of God and these
witnesses to join these two couples in holy matrimony. Marriage is a most
sacred and holy of estates. So I charge of both couples if anyone knows
of a reason why either couple may not be joined let them speak now or forever
hold your peace. Now the couples have written their own vows.
Mac: Felica I never thought I needed a family or love. I felt those
were trappings that could only hinder me. I thought living meant taking
chances and constantly being in some sort of danger. But then I met you
and the girls and everything changed. You and the girls opened my eyes.
You made me realize what truly counts in life and what it means to be alive.
Now I think the most exciting adventure I could hope for is the one laying
out before us now. The one that makes us man and wife and me the step father
of your children. I realize that family and love are not trappings of life
but life its self. You have blessed me with a happiness that I never new
existed and a love that fills me more and more everyday. I love you Felica
and I can't wait to start our lives together.
Felica has tears streaming down her face.
Felica: Wow.
Everyone laughs
Felica: Mac when I was little I used to dream of a night in shinning
armer riding up on a horse and carrying me away. I dreamed that he would
protect me and love me. I dreamed he'd fill me with a love beyond measure,
and joy indescribable. Then I grew up and I tried to forget those fantasy's.
But then I found you. Now you may not have come on a horse, but Mac you
came just the same. And the love you've given and I've grown to feel is
like nothing I've ever known. The joy you've brought me and the girls is
something I'll treasure forever. And future we'll have together is something
I look forward to with excitement beyond measure. I love you Mac, now and
always
Mac smiles as tears well up in his eyes
Minister: The rings please
Mac places the ring on Felica's finger
Mac: I Malcolm Scorpio take you Felica Jones to be my lawfully wedded
wife. To have and to hold to love and to cherish for better or worse, through
sickness and in health, till death do us part. With this ring thee I wed.
Felica puts the ring on Mac's finger
Felica: I Felica Jones take you Malcolm Scorpio to be my lawfully
wedded husband. To have and to hold to love and to charish for better or
worse, through sickness and in health, till death do us part. With this
ring thee I wed.
Minister: Now by the powers invested in me I pronounce they are
man and wife.
Mac and Felica kiss tenderly.
Minister: Okay now Kevin and Lucy have also done their own vows.
Kevin: Lucy there are simply not enough words in the human language
to describe my love for you. You are everything and then some to me. You
have been my best friend, my counselor, my teacher, my clown, my supporter,
my advocate, my defender, my protector, my lover, my soulmate, my savior.
I wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for you. Lucy my world was a dark and
cold and lonely place before you. But you came like a ray of light filling
my world with love and beauty. You taught me the meaning of pure joy, and
helped me discover the greatest of loves. You are an answer to a preyer,
a wish granted and a dream come true. You are my everything. You know someone
asked me what are plans were after our marriage. And I realized the only
plan I have is to do my best every day to let you know how much I love
you, how grateful I am to have you in my life, and to try and make you
as happy as you've made me. I am blessed to have your love Lucy and I swear
I'll never take it for granted.
Lucy is crying.
Lucy: Oh Doc. Kevin I feel as though I've waited for this day since
I was a little girl. I've searched high and low to find my prince. And
I found him in you. You are my dream come true, my fantasy realized my
everything. I used to wonder when it would be my turn to be loved? Well,
now I wonder no more. And while we haven't always had it easy I am grateful
for those challenges. For I believe it is because of those challenges that
our love and commitment to one another is so strong. We have faced the
fire and come out together. I know without a doubt our love can concur
any obstacle that gets in our way. And I am so ready to spend this day
forward at your side loving you and sharing with you all that life has
to offer.
everyone is crying.
Minister: The rings
Kevin: I Kevin Collins take you Lucy Coe to be my lawfully wedded
wife. To have and to hold to love and to cherish for better or worse, through
sickness and in health, till death do us part. With this ring thee I wed.
Kevin places the ring on Lucy's finger.
Lucy: I Lucy Coe take you Kevin Collins to be my lawfully wedded
husband. To have and to hold to love and to cherish for better or worse,
through sickness and in health, till death do us part. With this ring thee
I wed.
Lucy puts the ring on Kevin's finger.
Minister: Now with the powers invested in me I pronounce that they
are husband and wife.
They kiss tenderly everyone cheers.
Chapter Two
Grace is feverishly running around the ER helping everyone set up for
the patient coming in. Matt comes racing in in his suit
Grace: Matt, I'm sorry I had to pull you away from your Date with Ellen
but we've got a critical patient coming in
Matt: Not a problem what happened?
Grace: A bad car reck. Apparently a van swerved over into on coming
traffic and hit this poor guy head on. He has massive injuries and the
EMT's are having trouble keeping him stable.
Matt nods
Matt: Okay lets get ready people!
Just then the EMT's race in.
Matt: What do we got?
EMT: Male late twenties with massive internal injuries, along with
head and neck trauma. We've had trouble getting a steady pulse on him and
he is not breathing on his own.
Matt: Okay page Boardman, and Dr. Jones. Let me take a look
Matt moves in and realizes it's Chris.
Matt: Okay, Grace get him hoocked up to the monitors and get him on
a vent, the other Dr.'s should be here soon I'm out of here.
Grace: What?!
Matt: Grace that is Chris Ramsey lying there, no way in hell am I taking
time away from Ellen to save that losers butt. This world will be a better
place without him.
Grace: Matt you are sworn to help him and he is critical!
Matt sighs
Matt: You think he would give a damn if I was hurt? Look the other
doctors will be here soon and the EMT's can help you till they are. Now
I am going to go be with Ellen. Call me if there is an emergency worth
coming in for.
Matt leaves Grace stairs after him stunned. Suddenly Chris's heart
stops
Grace: Oh no! Okay start CPR! Charge the paddles to 100! Give him 12
cc's nitro and 6 cc's eppy!
Grace grabs the paddles.
Grace: Charging! Clear!
Chris's heart doesn't start
Grace: Come on Chris! Okay charge to 200 hundred! Start him on a Isoperl
drip!
Grace grabs the paddles
Grace: Charging! Clear!
Chris heart starts
Grace breaths a sigh of relief
Grace: Okay hang 5 leaders of O- blood, and get him on that vent! Jill
help me get a chest tube in him!
Grace and Jill manage to get him on the vent and a chest tube in place
quickly. Soon the other doctors arrive and rush in and race a still very
critical Chris into surgery.
Grace stands in the ER watching them race out. Jill comes up to her.
Jill: You did great Grace, if it wasn't for you Chris would have died.
Grace: Yeah well I've worked in the ER long enough to know what to
do, but I shouldn't have had to do this.
Grace shakes her head sadly
Grace: I never realized Matt could be so cruel.
Jill: Maybe he was just having a bad day
Grace looks at Jill seriously
Grace: Jill he is a doctor he could tell as well as anyone that Chris
was at deaths door and he left. There is no excuse for that. I don't care
how bad your day is, I don't care what you think of the patient a doctor
must treat all of his patients not abandon those he doesn't like. My God
Jill What if I hadn't been able to get his heart started? Or been able
to get that chest tube in place? What if I didn't have the experience I
do, or if I'd panicked. Matt didn't know I could handle this, he didn't
know I was going to be able to save Chris.
Jill: Are you going to report him?
Grace: What choice do I have Jill? I'm a nurse it's my job to look
after the patients here.
Jill: Maybe you should talk to him first.
Grace nods
Grace: Yeah maybe, I guess it wouldn't hurt to try huh.
Jill nods
Jill: You know for what it's worth Chris was in capable hands you handled
that like a pro.
Grace smiles
Grace: Thanks, I really did always want to be a doctor but I couldn't
afford to so I settled on being a nurse.
Jill: Well, you really have a gift.
Grace: I guess
Jill: So now what?
Grace: Well, I guess I need to go try and track down some of Chris's
family.
Jill: I'm not sure he has any.
Grace: Well, I've got to try. I'm a nurse and that's my job. The patients
come first no matter what.
Grace moves off. Jill watches her go and shakes her head
Jill: And a great nurse you are.
Jake is pacing back and forth as he holds the phone to his ear listening
to it ring
Jake: Come on, come on pick up!
John: Hello?
Jake: John it's me listen, I found something pretty shocking in my
Dad's papers and I need the truth from you.
John: You know I'll always tell you the truth, what is it Jake? What's
going on?
Jake: I found what appears to be some adoption papers in my Dad's stuff.
Now, I'd call Mama but I don't want to upset her right now. So do you know?
Am I adopted?
John: Yawsers! Jake I swear this is the first I've heard about this.
I have no idea, look let me make some phone calls and do a little digging
I'll see what I can find out for you.
Jake: Thanks John I appreciate it. I just can't believe I could be
adopted
John: Hey Jake listen, it's just a legal formality okay. You are part
of my family and nothing could ever change that, okay. I love you, you're
my cousin and that's that.
Jake smiles with tears in his eyes.
Jake: Thanks man I love you to. But I really do need to know
John: I understand, I'll do some digging and get back to you okay?
Jake nods
Jake: Okay bye
John: Bye
Just then Jake looks at the clock
Jake: Yawsers! I'm going to be late for work
Jake grabs his coat and rushes out the door.
Everyone is having a great time and Kevin and Lucy's wedding reception
Joe and Karen are dancing. Karen seems distracted by something
Joe: Karen is everything okay?
Karen: What? Oh yeah I'm fine
Joe: Come on Karen I know you to well, what gives.
Karen sighs
Karen: It's really none of my business
Joe: But?
Karen: Julie is one of my best friends and I really care about Frank
to, and well I think they are heading for trouble.
Joe: What kind of trouble?
Karen sighs
Karen: Neither of them are being completely honest with each other.
Julie loves Frank and wants to move forward but she's afraid Frank doesn't
want to and doesn't want to risk loosing him so she's saying nothing. And
well Joe based on what Julie has said she has no idea that well
Joe sighs
Joe: That our father beat the living daylights out of Frank and I.
Yeah I know I was talking to Frank about that earlier. He's still very
ashamed of it and doesn't feel comfortable talking about it. I think he
believes it will change how Julie feels about him or at least how she looks
at him
Karen shakes her head sadly
Karen: I know that feeling I just wish he could believe that, that's
not true.
Joe sighs
Joe: Well, as long as he thinks Julie doesn't want to move forward,
which is what he thinks by the way he's not going to risk it.
Karen nods
Karen: Julie pushed him away cause she was scared, she'd never been
in love before. Now she wants to move forward but thinks he doesn't want
to.
Joe: Oh he wants to he's just scared. But I agree with you, with all
the miscommunications and secrets they are heading for trouble.
Karen: I wish there was some way to help them. I've encouraged Julie
to be upfront with Frank but I don't know if she's going to.
Joe: I've done the same with Frank but I'm not sure he will either.
It really is a mess.
Karen: I know, I mean don't get me wrong I understand where they are
both coming from but. . .
Joe: But if they are going to make this work they have to get passed
their fears and talk. It wasn't easy for me to tell you about Dad but I
felt it was important that you know.
Karen nods
Karen: I'm glad you told me, I love you nothing could ever change that.
And it made me telling you about my past much easier.
Joe nods
Joe: It's great that we have such a strong relationship.
Karen nods
Karen: I really hope they come clean with each other, they make such
a great couple and this could just tear them apart.
Joe: Yeah, it's not so much what the secrets are as the fact they've
been kept.
Karen nods
Karen: I can't imagine if I was still carrying around the secret about
Ray.
Joe holds her close
Joe: I'm glad you aren't. I have to admit I'm also glad the killer
was never found.
Karen nods
Karen: That's one murder I don't loose any sleep over.
Joe: Do you know if he had any family?
Karen shakes her head
Karen: No, I have no idea. And given the fact that for a long time
he lived in PC I'm glad I don't. I mean, can you imagine if he was related
to someone I know or was close to?
Joe shakes his head
Joe: That would certainly be a mess. But a man like that probably has
no family
Karen: Yeah probably not.
The young woman walks around the Scanlon house. Discouraged to find
no one there she heads back to the cab waiting out front.
Woman: No one is home.
Cab driver: So where to now lady?
Woman thinks for a minute
Woman: General Hospital
The driver heads off. Soon they reach GH. Woman goes up to the nurses
station.
Jill: Hi may I help you?
Woman: Yes, I'm looking for Dr. Eve Lamburt.
Jill: Oh I'm sorry Dr. Lamburt has the day off.
The woman sighs heavily
Woman: Great
Jill: Is there something I can help you with?
Woman: No that's fine thanks anyway.
The Woman turns quickly and runs smack dab into Jake.
Woman: Hey watch it!
Jake: Oh I'm sorry. I'm Jake
Woman: I'm in a hurry.
Jake: I can see that anything I can do to help?
Woman sighs
Woman: in less you know where Dr. Eve Lamburt is no
Jake: Well, she's at a wedding right now but after that my guess is
you can find her back at her boyfriend Scott Baldwins house.
Woman: Thank you, sounds like you know her pretty well.
Jake: Well we work together and when she tries really hard she can
almost be a friend.
Jake laughs the woman scows
Woman: You know I think people that judge others without all the facts
are real jerks. Bye Jerk!
The woman leaves quickly as a stunned Jake looks after her.
Frank and Julie are dancing closely at the reception that is winding
down.
Julie: That really was a beautiful wedding wasn't it? So romantic,
and sweet.
Frank nods
Frank: Yeah, it's always nice to see two people so ready to commit
to one another.
Julie nods
Julie: Yes it is. True love is so precious and when to people can come
together and pledge themselves to one another it really is a wonderful
thing.
Frank: Yeah, It really can make a person think about there own future
huh.
Julie: Yes it can.
Frank and Julie stair at each other both wanting to say more but both
to afraid they continue to hold one another close as their hearts ache.
Finely Julie decides to break the silence.
Julie: Frank, uh I need to ask you something.
Frank: You can ask me anything Julie you know that.
Julie takes a deep breath.
Julie: Are you happy? I mean, with me with us?
Frank smiles
Frank: Julie I'm always happy at your side. You make me happier then
I've ever been.
Julie misunderstanding this smiles
Julie: That's good I'm glad.
Frank misunderstands what Julie is saying
Frank: I don't want you to worry Julie were on the same page. I'm happy
just being close to you.
Julie tries to smile
Julie: I'm happy to be close to you to Frank
They hug one another both feeling that the other doesn't want something
seareus.
Grace is sitting quietly in the waiting area next to the OR Chris is
being worked on in. Jill spots her and comes over to her.
Jill: Grace? Everything okay?
Grace looks up
Grace: What? Oh hi Jill yeah everything is okay. I couldn't find any
of Chris's relatives. Seems like the guy is truly alone in the world
Grace shakes her head sadly
Jill: That is ashame. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have anyone
that cared about me
Grace nods
Grace: Yeah, that's why I'm sitting out here. I don't think anyone
deserves to be in such a life threatening situation without anyone waiting
on word. So I'm waiting and praying for him.
Jill smiles and shakes her head
Jill: You are one amazing nurse Grace.
Grace blushes
Grace: No, no I'm nothing special just a nurse that will do what ever
she can for her patients.
Jill: And that's why you are the best. I'm on a break how about if
I wait with you. We can pray together. The more the better right
Grace smiles
Grace: Right
Jill sits next to Grace they hold hands and begin praying. Soon after
Boardman comes out. Both Jill and Grace stand up
Grace: How is he?
Boardman frowns and shakes his head
Boardman: Well, he's alive but he's very critical. He is in a coma,
and his internal injures
Boardman shakes his head
Grace: What about them?
Boardman: His liver was so badly punctured there is no way it's going
to continue functioning for him. He's going to need a transplant. And because
he has the small P factor in his blood which only one percent of the population
has well
Grace sighs
Grace: He'll need a miracle
Boardman nods
Boardman: Pretty much. Excuse me
Boardman leaves. Grace and Jill just shake there heads sadly
Jake is going over some files at the nurses station when the phone rings.
Jake answers it.
Jake: General Hospital Dr. Marshak speaking
John: Hey Jake it's me, listen I just got off the phone with my Mom,
can you talk now?
Jake nods
Jake: Sure, so what's the word? Am I adopted?
John sighs
John: Yeah man you are. But listen that really doesn't change a thing
okay. I mean You are my cousin and I love you nothing is ever going to
change that. And your Mom loves you as her own you know that.
Jake takes a deep breath absorbing the shock
Jake: Yeah, I know, I know all that it's just a shock. So you got the
whole story for me?
John nods
John: Yeah, I got a lot of it. Apparently Uncle Paul and Aunt Marta
had been trying for a couple years to have kids but just couldn't. Aunt
Marta did get pregnant twice but she lost both babies. They new they really
wanted kids so they turned to adoption. We don't know to much about your
birth family. Except that your birthmother was young and her and your father
didn't have a lot of money, and you have a fraternal twin brother
Jake: A what!
John: Yep, a twin brother. He's not an identical one but twin nonetheless.
Anyway Aunt Marta and Uncle Paul wanted to adopt both of you but your birth
parents decided to keep your brother. I guess they had enough money for
one but not two kids.
Jake: Yawsers! Do you have any other info? Like names or something?
John thinks
John: My Mom thinks your birth parents names were Henry and Gloria
but she couldn't remember their last name. Listen Jake I know you want
to know all about them, I totally understand that but
Jake: But I'm not going to forget about the family I have, and now
is definitely not the right time to talk to Mom about it. I understand
that don't worry I won't.
John: Good. Well, I need to go I'll talk to you later okay
Jake: Okay bye
John: Bye
They hang up Jake plops down and shakes his head in amazement
Jake: This is just unbelievable.
It is now after the reception Lucy and Kevin are at the Port Charles
hotel where they will spend their wedding night before leaving for Hawaii
in the morning. Lucy has been feeling noshes on and off all day. She even
got sick looking at the wedding meal she spent so long planning. They are
now up in the hotel room dancing to some soft music
Kevin: Are you feeling any better?
Lucy smiles
Lucy: A little, don't worry I'm sure it's just a little bug or something.
Kevin strokes her face lovingly
Kevin: How can I not worry, when you are everything to me. Besides,
I've never heard of a stomach bug that comes and goes in waves.
Lucy smiles
Lucy: I'm sure it's nothing. I have an idea why don't you go drawl
us a nice warm bubble bath.
Kevin smiles pulling her close
Kevin: Now I like the sound of that.
They kiss tenderly. Kevin then goes to the bathroom. Just then there
is a knock at the door. Lucy mutters under her breath as she goes to the
door
Lucy: It's about time how long can it take to run to the drug store.
Lucy opens it and the desk clerk hands her a brown paper bag.
Clerk: Here Mrs. Collins sorry it took so long
Lucy nods
Lucy: Thank you
Lucy hands him a tip and closes the door. Just then Kevin walks in
Lucy quickly hides the bag behind her back
Kevin: Who was that?
Lucy: Oh nothing. Why don't you order us some room service and I'll
go finish getting are bubble bath ready.
Lucy hurries out of the room before he can argue. Once in the bathroom
she locks the door and pulls out the pregnancy test. Lucy stairs at it
and takes a deep breath
Lucy: Okay, Lucy lets see what's going on.
Joe and Karen are taking a romantic drive after the reception.
Karen: So where are you taking me?
Joe smiles
Joe: It's a surprise, but I know you're going to like it.
Joe smiles confidently
Karen laughs
Karen: Oh really
Joe: Oh without a doubt.
About then they pull over along the side of the road Karen looks at
Joe confused
Karen: Why are we stopping here?
Joe: You'll see.
Joe comes around and opens the door for Karen.
Joe: Now before we go any further I need you to put this on.
Joe hands her a blindfold
Karen laughs
Karen: You're kidding right?
Joe shakes his head
Joe: Nope, I have something very special planned for us.
Joe helps her on with it then taking her arms leads her off. After
walking aways they stop. Joe helps Karen sit down on a huge rock
Karen: Can I look now?
Joe: Yep
Joe helps her off with her blind fold. Karen looks around in aw. She
is sitting on a rock wall bye a beautiful lake. Their are ducks swimming
in the lake. There are beautiful colored flowers everywhere and the sky
is full of stars.
Karen: Oh Joe this place is amazing. Where are we?
Joe smiles proudly
Joe: I'm glad you like it. When I was growing up and things got to
tough I'd come to this spot and think. It's a little hide away for me.
No one else knows about it. And now it's ours.
Karen smiles
Karen: I love it.
Joe smiles
Joe: That's not all
Joe reaches behind one of the rocks and pulls out an old dusty note
book.
Joe: I wrote a lot when I was young it helped me escape. Anyway, I've
never let anyone see these pages before but tonight I want to share some
of it with you.
Karen: Okay
Joe sits down next to her on the rock he searches the notebook for
a particular entry then begins ready.
Dear Journal,
I've spent so many hours here writing in this book, thinking things
over and simply hiding out. But this entry is different from any entry
I've done before. This entry is to be re read in the future by my true
love. By my Karen. Frank always says if I want something all I have to
do is go out and get it. So I'm planning ahead right now. What I want is
Karen, what I need is Karen, what I know I'll have is Karen. She is what
I think about when I'm trying to escape the pain my Dad inflicts on us,
she is what I dream about when I finely fall asleep after the yelling.
She makes me laugh, she makes me smile she makes my life seem truly worthwild.
I love her so much and all I can do is pray that someday she'll love me
just the same. I'm writing this down so she can see just how long I've
loved her and just how much she means. Karen is the bright spot I need
everyday, and the future that gives me strength. I love her now, and I
will love her even more in the future. I am so nerves writing this cause
I know one day she'll read these lines. but I know I am doing the right
thing cause nothing feels wrong when I'm around her.
Joe closes the notebook Karen has tears in her eyes.
Karen: Joe, that is so beautiful. I think that is the most romantic
thing I have ever heard.
Joe smiles and rips the page out of the note book and hands it to her
Joe: It's all yours.
Karen looks at it and holds it to her heart.
Karen: Thank you
Joe: And a lot more can be yours if you just answer my next question
correctly
Karen looks at him curiously
Karen: What do you mean?
Joe drops down on one knee infront of Karen and takes her hand
Joe: Karen, you are the true great love of my life. You have given
me so much joy, so much peace so much happiness. I cannot even put into
words what your love has meant to me. I've known you were the one I wanted
for all time since I was a child, and tonight the time has come to make
that wish a reality.
Joe pulls out the little box from his pocket Karen gasps as she places
her free hand over her heart
Joe: Karen will you marry?
Scott and Eve are driving home with Serena asleep in the back seat.
Eve: That really was a beautiful wedding wasn't it.
Scott: Yeah, a little sappy for my taste but beautiful
Eve smiles
Eve: I guess that's just how love is. Speaking of which after we put
Serena to bed maybe we should pick up on the conversation we started before
the wedding.
Eve smiles at him seductively
Scott: I think we could arrange something.
Scott smiles at her devilishly
They laugh. Just then they turn onto their street. Scott suddenly notices
a cab parked in the drive way
Scott: What the hell is that?
Eve: Were you expecting anyone?
Scott pulls in behind the cab
Scott: No, look you stay in the car while I find out what's going on
Eve nods as Scott gets out, as he does a young woman steps out of the
cab. Eve watching from inside gasps as she sees the young girls face
Eve: I don't believe this
Scott: Can I help you?
with the bright headlights from Scott's car the woman can't see into
the front seat of Scott's car.
Woman: I'm here to see my Sister
Scott: Who is your sister?
Shelly: Eve Lamburt
Chapter Three
Eve takes a deep breath and slowly gets out of the car. It is now that
Shelly sees her. Shelly smiles
Shelly: Hey sis! Boy you are hard to find!
Shelly runs to her and hugs Eve tightly.
Eve: Shelly, uh hi what, uh what are you doing here?
Shelly laughs
Shelly: Well, that's a fine welcome to give your kid sister. What aren't
you glad to see me?
Eve: What? Oh yes of course don't be silly. I, I am thrilled to see
you. It's just uh I, I didn't expect to see you here. I'm just surprised
that's all.
Shelly: Well, I wanted to see you and we got some unfinished business
to discuss.
Eve: We do? Uh okay.
Scott: Why don't we all go inside and the two of you can catch up while
I put Serena to bed.
Scott lifts a sleeping Serena out of the back seat.
Shelly: Cute kid.
Looks at Eve
Shelly: To old to be yours though, huh.
Shelly laughs
Eve: She is Scott's daughter from his last marriage. His wife has been
dead for sometime now.
Shelly nods as they all walk into the house. Scott takes Serena upstairs.
Shelly plops down on the couch
Shelly: Nice digs. So you shaking up with him?
Eve sits next to Shelly still somewhat wind blown.
Eve: No, not really. I rent a place from some people I know, but I
do spend a lot of time over here.
Shelly: Cool.
Eve: So Shelly, what, what have you been doing these days?
Shelly lights a cigarette and takes a few puffs.
Shelly: Nothing much. I got a new job working as a waitress at Hooters.
Eve: Oh Shelly that's so degrading you could do so much more.
Shelly: Hey, don't start all right. It pays the bills and gives me
something to do. So what about you?
Eve: Well, my job is going very well. I love being a doctor and helping
people.
Shelly: Yeah, must be a real fun feeling to play God.
Eve: Shelly that's not what I do.
Shelly shrugs and takes another puff off her cigarette.
Shelly: So you and this guy seareus?
Eve: Yes, we are very in love. How about you do you have anyone?
Shelly: Yeah, actually I do.
Eve lights up
Eve: Oh really? That's great what's his name?
Shelly: Jack Danielle's
Shelly laughs at her joke Eve takes a deep breath
Eve: Shelly
Shelly: Oh don't get all bent out of shape I'm just kidding you. I
only get drunk once a week now.
Shelly laughs
Eve: Is there something I can do for you?
Shelly takes a long puff
Shelly: As a matter a fact there is.
Eve: What?
Shelly looks at Eve very seriously
Shelly: You can help me make sure the person who killed our Dad finely
pays.
Karen with tears in her eyes looks at Joe who is still down on one
knee
Joe: Karen, I know you've been hurt before by love but I swear to you
my love will never cause you pain. I truly believe with all my heart and
all my soul that we are meant to be. We are each others destiny. So will
you marry me?
Karen takes a deep breath trying to collect her thoughts.
Karen: Oh, Joe. Yes, yes yes of course I'll marry you!
Joe leaps off the the ground and grabs Karen. Taking her in his arms
he spins around holding her close. Both are laughing and crying.
Joe: Oh My God this has got to be the best night of my life!
He looks deeply into Karen's eyes as he holds her close.
Joe: Thank you for making all my dreams come true.
Karen smiles
Karen: Thank you for making me the happiest woman alive.
They kiss tenderly.
Karen: That had to be the most romantic proposal ever.
Joe smiles
Joe: Well what did you expect my dear
They both laugh
Joe: So what do you say we go and announce this to everyone right away.
Karen: Actually, I think I would rather be a little selfish with this
for a while. At least for tonight. You know just be together alone. Just
the two of us celebrating our love and our future.
Joe smiles
Joe: I think that can be arranged
Karen: I love you Joe Scanlon
Joe: I love you Karen Wexler.
They kiss tenderly
Lucy paces nervously around the bathroom.
Lucy: Boy, oh boy this has got to be the longest five minutes of my
life! Is that timer even working?
Lucy goes over and puts her hear up to the timer and sighs
Lucy: Yeah, it's ticking away. Okay now just calm down Lucy. You don't
want to get your hopes all up. Okay you are probably not pregnant. I mean,
after all Dr. Medows herself said with all that damn scar tissue it would
be one hard one battle to get pregnant. So this, this is just a big waist
of time.
Kevin: Lucy? You okay in there?
Lucy: Yes Doc I'm fine, I'll be out soon. Just, just relax okay.
Lucy looks again at the timer
Lucy: Relax, yeah relax that's what I need to do. I can't be pregnant
there is just no way. Oh but what if I am.
Lucy's eyes tear up
Lucy: What if Doc and I are finely going to have our very own little
one. I, I just can't stop thinking about that.
Lucy gets a smile on her face and looks at the bathroom door.
Lucy: Oh Doc, I, I can't imagine anything more wonderful.
Suddenly the timer goes off making Lucy jump
Lucy: Oh my Gosh!
Lucy quickly shuts off the timer as her hands shake nervously.
Kevin: Lucy?
Lucy: Everything's fine Doc just a minute.
Lucy takes a deep breath
Lucy: Everything is fine. Nothing to be nerves about either I am or
I'm not.
Lucy lifts up the stick with shaking hands. As she looks at it her
eyes fill with tears and her heart begins to pound wildly
Lucy: Oh My God! I'm, I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant!
Lucy races out of the bathroom still holding the stick tears streaming
down her face.
Lucy: Doc!
Kevin seeing the tears is ameadeitly concerned.
Kevin: Lucy what's wrong
Lucy smiles and shakes her head
Lucy: Nothing is wrong, nothing could be more right. I'm pregnant!
Lucy shows him the stick Kevin stairs at it in disbelief
Kevin: You're pregnant
Lucy nods
Kevin: You're pregnant!
Lucy: Yes
Kevin lifts Lucy off the ground and twirls her around as they both
laugh and cry
Kevin: We're having a baby!
Kevin looks into Lucy's emotion filled face as his own emotions fill
his face
Kevin: Oh Lucy, you, you have made me the happiest man on the face
of the earth you know that. I, I can't imagine being any happier. First
I marry my true love, now we are having baby.
Lucy: Oh Doc we are so blessed. I am so proud to be having your baby.
And I just know everything is going to be fine.
Kevin: It's going to be better then fine it's going to be perfect.
They kiss happily.
Grace is working at the nurses station on the computer when Matt comes
up
Matt: Hey Grace
Grace: Hi Matt. Listen can we talk?
Matt looks at his watch
Matt: Sure I got a couple minutes what's up?
Grace: Well, I want to talk to you about your actions earlier in the
ER when Chris was brought in.
Matt sighs
Matt: Grace the guy is scum
Grace: Matt you are sworn to save lives! You took an oath to treat
all patients not just the ones you like.
Matt: Grace he didn't die he's alive.
Grace: No thanks to you! Matt right after you left Chris crashed big
time. Jill and I were the only ones in there along with the EMT's and we
had to struggle with our limited knowledge to save his life. That shouldn't
have happened Matt.
Matt: Grace he would have crashed whether I was there or not and you
handled it just fine.
Grace: That's not the point Matt. I shouldn't have had to. That was
your job a job I believed you cared about.
Matt: Of course I care about it, I've worked very hard to become a
surgeon. What I don't care about is Ramsey
Grace: But he was your patient!
Matt: Nope he's Boardman and Qourtermain's problem now. Look, Grace
I'm sorry if my actions upset you but that guy, I mean really if he died
he'd do the world a huge favor.
Grace stairs at Matt in amazement and shakes her head
Grace: I thought I new you. I thought you were a loving, caring, dependable
doctor. But the truth is you're no better then your family.
Matt goes ridged.
Matt: I am nothing like my family
Grace: Oh no? You just nearly let a man die today what would you call
it? You know what forget it just forget it. I'm tired of trying to make
you see what you did was wrong. But don't think for one-second Alan won't
be hearing about this from me, cause you better believe he will
Matt: Grace
Grace: Matt, I'm responsible for the protection and well being of the
patients in this hospital and Chris is one of them and your actions put
both in jeopardy.
Grace starts to walk off Matt grabs her arm
Matt: I wouldn't do that if I were you Grace. Don't forget who my girlfriend
is. If I wanted to I could make your life a living hell.
Matt glares at her coldly and leaves. Grace stairs after him in shock.
Grace is sitting at the nurses station computer rubbing her neck tiredly,
when Jake walks up.
Jake: Hey Grace long day?
Grace nods
Grace: A very long, very hard, very bad day.
Jake: You want to talk about it?
Grace sighs and turns to Jake.
Grace: Jake have you ever been completely wrong about someone? I mean,
have you ever known someone that you considered a friend, that you trusted
and admired and thought the world of. And then suddenly without warning
they just changed. Just up and completely shattered your entire view of
them?
Jake: You're talking about Matt huh.
Grace: How did you
Jake shrugs
Jake: Small hospital, people talk.
Grace: Yeah, Matt. Jake he walked out on a patient today and nearly
cost them their life by doing so. I don't care who it was the fact is it
was a patient.
Jake nods
Jake: I agree no doctor should ever walk away from a patient regardless
of who it is.
Grace: You know I'd expect this from Chris maybe but not Matt. Oh and
then, then when I confronted him with it and told him I was going to talk
to Alan he threatened me!
Jake: Matt? Yawssers that doesn't sound like him at all.
Grace: Certainly not the one I thought I new.
Jake: Listen Grace something else must be going on here, okay? You
know something none of us know about. Cause that just isn't Matt, it couldn't
be.
Grace: Like what Jake, what else could be going on to make him act
like this.
Jake thinks
Jake: I don't know, but look, let's, let's just give it a day or so.
Maybe, maybe Matt will come around and start acting like himself again
okay?
Grace sighs
Grace: I'm not sure how much good that will do, but okay if you think
that will help I'll just drop it for a couple days and see what happens.
Jake: I think it is, I mean come on this isn't Matt. So how is Chris
doing anyway?
Grace: He's extremely critical. Right now due to the brain trauma he's
in a coma and no one is really sure if he is going to wake up, and his
liver was so badly damaged that he's going to need a transplant. And as
if all of that wasn't bad enough he has the small P factor in his blood
which only one percent of the population has. So, in other words Chris
is going to need a miracle.
Jake: Yawsers. Have you had in any luck with registry?
Grace shakes her head
Grace: No, not so far.
Jake thinks
Jake: You know I've heard of several cases of people who are alive
donating portions of their liver and it's been quite successful. Have you
been able to reach any of Chris's family? Maybe one of them can help
Grace sighs
Grace: No, I've tried but I have yet to locate any of them. I know
his mother died years ago, and from what I've heard his father was such
an alcoholic well I doubt he could help anyway. And as for siblings I have
no idea where to even begin to look.
Jake shakes his head then gets an idea.
Jake: Listen, I happen to have the small p factor also. So how about
if I get tested. I mean, I'm probably not a match but you never know.
Grace smiles
Grace: Jake that is so generous of you.
Jake shrugs
Jake: I'm probably not a match but hey I became a doctor to save lives
not watch people die. I'll go get tested now.
Grace shakes her head as Jake walks away
Grace: Now there goes one fine doctor.
Eve looks at Shelly somewhat surprised, and taken aback.
Eve: What, what do you mean?
Shelly shakes her head
Shelly: You're just as bad as Mom. Look Eve somebody killed our father.
And
it's about Damn time someone paid for it.
Eve sighs
Eve: Shelly, why are you trying to open this can of warms now. Dad's
been
dead for years. If the cops couldn't find the killer when it first
happened
what on earth makes you think they can now?
Shelly takes another puff off of her cigarette and stairs at Eve.
Shelly: You really buy they tried to find the killer.
Eve: Why wouldn't they? I mean, it's their job to.
Shelly laughs
Shelly: Oh that's a good one! Look sis I hate to wake you up from your
little fantasy world but the cops don't give a damn about white trash
like
us. Heck they'd probably be happy if we all just dropped off the face
of the
earth.
Eve takes a deep breath
Eve: Shelly that's not true, they are sworn to protect all of us and
that's
what they do. And further more we are not white trash.
Shelly: Then what in the world would you call it? Mom ran away from
an
abusive home when she was 13, had you when she was 14 and dropped out
of
School. Then had me a couple years later. Then proceeded to drink and
do
drugs for most of her adult life as she dragged us from one abusive
relationship to another. Oh and Dad! Yeah Dad was a real winner wasn't
he.
Dad the man that dropped out of school right along with Mom and became
a
ragging alcoholic, and beat mom on a regular basis. Well, ofcourse
only
until he abandoned us when we were just small kids.
Eve: Well, if you have such a low opinion of him, why the hell are
you
looking for justice?
Shelly: Because right or wrong he was our father Eve! And no matter
how big
a jerk he may have been he didn't deserve to be murdered.
Eve: Would you keep your voice down! There is a little girl up their
trying
to sleep!
Shelly rolls her eyes
Shelly: Oh that's right sorry I forgot you're trying to set up house
and get
away from who you are.
Eve: That is not what I am trying to do. I happen to have made a success
out
of my life by working hard, something I guess you wouldn't know about,
huh?
And Scott and I happen to be truly in love
Shelly: Hey don't insult me! Look, call it what ever you want okay
sis. But
the fact is you've gotten yourself as far away from me and Mom as you
can
and you know it. So, are you going to help me or not.
Eve: Help you with what! The cops couldn't find anything, how the hell
am I
supposed to. And if you want the cops to reopen it you're going to
have to
find a better reason then you want justice. They closed the case cause
there
was no evidence plain and simple.
Shelly: Well, a lot of good this visit did me, guess I should have
known
better then to come here.
Shelly gets up in a huff and grabs her purse.
Eve: Shelly. . .
Shelly: Hey forget it. I'm sorry I bothered you. You just go back to
your
nice little white picket fence life. Don't worry I'll handle this on
my own
just like I've handled everything else on my own since you abandoned
us.
Eve: Shelly!
Shelly leaves slamming the door behind her. Eve stands there staring
at the
door near tears.
Karen and Joe are snuggled up under a blanket looking up at the stars.
Karen: This is so beautiful
Joe looks at Karen and smiles
Joe: Yeah the view is definitely beautiful
He winks at Karen. Karen blushes and laughs
Karen: So, I'm curious Scanlon. Where did you learn to be so romantic?
Joe looks at Karen seriously
Joe: Oh I was made that way
Karen: Oh really
They both crack up
Joe: Actually. Frank taught me most of what I know, when it comes to
how to treat a lady. As far as where he learned it I have no idea.
Karen nods
Joe: So where did you learn to be such a lady? I mean, no offense to
your Mom but
Karen: But in those days she was no lady yeah I know. I'm not really
sure. I know I spent a lot of time watching other mothers. I watched your
Mom and my other friends Mom's and older sisters. I guess I learned from
all of them. And once I was older Ruby taught me a lot and so did Bobbie
Jones. And of course my grandmother. I guess, you just go where ever you
have to, to learn.
Joe nods
Joe: Yeah. I think a lot of who Frank and I are has to do with just
being the opposite of what we saw. You know what ever Dad would do we'd
do the opposite.
Karen: That works. So did your Dad ever do anything nice for you or
Frank?
Joe thinks back
Joe: Well, I remember sometimes Dad would take us out for ice cream
or buy us both new toy race cars.
Karen smiles
Karen: Well that's a nice memory.
Joe nods
Joe: Yeah, I guess. The thing is events like that usually happened
because Dad felt bad about hurting us. You know he'd beat us then treat
us.
Karen sighs
Karen: Well, at least he had the decency to feel a little bad about
what he'd done
Joe nods
Joe: Yeah early on he did, but as time passed he cared less and less
and hurt us more and more.
Karen: I'm so sorry you had to deal with that.
Joe: Well, you had to deal with a lot to.
Karen nods
Karen: Yeah. Ray really made things bad for me growing up. But, I over
came it.
Joe: Beautifully
Karen smiles
Karen: Well it helps that he's gone and no one is trying to find the
killer.
Joe nods
Joe: You know what enough about that. It's in the past and tonight
is about our future.
Karen smiles
Karen: And a wonderful future it will be
They kiss tenderly.
Joe: So when do you want to get married?
Karen thinks
Karen: Well, since a marriage is a new beginning, how about New Year's
Day.
Joe smiles
Joe: Sounds perfect. What would you think about moving into the house?
I mean, I know Frank and Julie already live there
Karen smiles
Karen: But we are all close and it would be nice. I love the idea.
Joe smiles
Joe: Great.
Karen: Speaking of Frank do you think him and Julie are working things
out?
Joe sighs
Joe: I sure hope so. I've done all I can to encourage him to come clean
with Julie and tell her everything. I mean, not just about the abuse but
how he wants to move their relationship forward.
Karen: Yeah, and I've done all I can to get Julie to come clean with
Frank about what she wants. I guess the rest is up to them. I hope they
make it.
Joe: Me to. I'm just glad we don't have secrets
Karen: Me to.
They kiss tenderly
Back at the Scanlon house Frank is taking a shower as Julie sits in
Frank's
bed trying to read, but her mind is wondering. Julie puts the book
down in
frustration
Julie: This is silly! Frank is the most open understanding man in the
world!
Of course I can talk to him about this. I'll just look him right in
the eye
and tell him how I feel. It will be easy. Besides if he doesn't want
a
future with me then, then maybe I should move on. Not that I want to,
and it
will hurt like hell. But, but I need to know whether or not I'm wasting
my
time.
Julie gets up and drops her book to the floor and accidentally kicks
it
under the bed.
Julie half laughs and shakes her head.
Julie: Always the klutz
Julie bends down and reaches under the bed. She grabs what she believes
to
be her book but when she brings it out it's a journal.
Julie: What's this
With out thinking Julie opens the journal.
Julie: Oh this must be Franks journal or something.
She then notices that the dates are from many years back
Julie: Oh, wow this is back from when Frank was a kid. I guess it's
okay to
read a couple entries. I mean, it's kid stuff nothing serious.
Julie begins reading.
Dear Journal
I just got out of the hospital, but man do I wish I was still there.
My head
is still throbbing from the concussion Dad gave me, and I'm going to
be in
this damn neck brace for six weeks because of the whip lash. You'd
think
he'd feel at least a little bad. You'd think he'd cut me a little slack
till
I am feeling better. But no here I am not home even two hours and I
have two
new black eyes and a fat lip. I guess I really shouldn't be surprised
he's
been beating me and Joe senseless our whole lives. But man it hurts.
I swear
if Dad doesn't kill me before I'm and adult and I get to have kids,
I'm
never going to hurt them EVER!
Julie stairs at the notebook dumb founded.
Julie: I, I don't believe this. Frank, Frank and Joe were abused. Why
didn't
he tell me? Did he think I wouldn't understand? Does Karen know?
Julie closes the journal but continues to stair at it.
Julie: How could Mary let this happen? Did he beat her two? Why didn't
he
tell me?
Tears fill Julie's eyes as she sits on the bed.
Julie: Oh Frank why didn't you tell me? Don't you trust me?
Kevin and Lucy are laying in bed snuggled up close one another.
Lucy: Oh Doc thank you.
Kevin laughs as he brushes a strand of hair out of her face.
Kevin: For what?
Lucy looks up at him lovingly and smiles.
Lucy: For making me the happiest woman around. Oh Doc I, I never dreamed
I
could be this happy. You know when I was a kid I always stood right
on the
outside of happiness. You know watching everyone else have it but not
having
any for myself. And even once I was an adult, I, I still was on the
outside
looking in. But now, now I have that happiness.
She strokes his face
Lucy: I have the man of my dreams who I love more then anything, and
now
Lucy smiles at she strokes her stomach
Lucy: Now I am pregnant with the baby I've wanted for so long.
Lucy looks up at Kevin with tears in her eyes
Lucy: Oh Doc we are so blessed.
Kevin smiles and kisses Lucy's forehead.
Kevin: And we deserve it, all of it. But I have to tell you Lucy, I'm
the
lucky one. I was a lost, lonely, and troubled soul till you found me.
You
taught me so much Lucy. How to love, how to laugh, how to live. You
gave me
so much. You gave me love, freedom from my past, and a reason to look
forward to tomorrow.
Kevin gets tears in his eyes.
Kevin: And now, just when I think it can't get any better. Now, when
you and
I are finely married, finely ready to go on this great adventure.
Kevin smiles as he places his hand on Lucy's stomach.
Kevin: You just make it all the better. I love you Lucy, and I always
will.
Lucy: Oh Doc, I love you to
They kiss passionately as they hold one another close.
Grace goes into Chris's ICU room to check on him. He is hooked up to
a dozen
different muchines, and has tubes and wires everywhere. Grace sighs
and
shakes her head as she checks over his chart and re asses his vitals.
Grace: Good to see you're still fighting to stay with us Ramsey keep
it up.
Who knows maybe we'll find a new liver for you yet.
Grace looks around the lonely room. She thinks of all the other patents
in
ICU and how they all have loved ones at their side. Chris has no one.
She
can't help but feel sorry for him. Grace pulls up a chair and sits
down
beside him.
Grace: Okay Chris I'll make you a little deal. I'll sit here with you
if you
keep fighting. You know, Chris I never told you this but I always felt
you
were a great doctor. This hospital is lucky to have you, as are the
patents.
And as much as you may try to hide it I know these patents mean a lot
to
you. You've got a lot to live for Chris. You are young, attractive,
smart,
successful, and you have a lot of good things in your future. You know,
I
realized today how lonely it must be sometimes for you. But Chris you
know
you can change that for yourself. You can have what ever your heart
desires.
All you have to do is live. Tell you what you wake up right now and
I'll get
you started off on the right track. I'll be your friend.
Grace takes his hand in hers
Grace: So what do you say friend, wake up. You've got a lot of living
left
to do.
Grace waits but nothing happens. She sighs and shakes her head. But
just as
she is about to lay Chris's hand back on the bed, he squeezes her hand.
Grace jumps then looks up. Chris's eyes are wide open and he is looking
right at her with a surprised and confused look on his face.
