Best of Intentions

By Tona

Chris rushed across the airport, realizing that for once in his life he was about to do the right thing.  At least he hoped and prayed that it was the right thing.  He couldn't let go.  Although things had started one way almost a year ago, he'd come up with a completely different set of plans.  Plans he'd never intended to have again, not with anyone.

He spotted her across the crowded gate.  He felt relief as he knew he did have a chance.  He would have a chance to fix a huge blunder in his life.  As she started to turn away to start towards the ticket agent, he picked up his pace and called out to her, "Livvie...wait."

She turned towards the voice and stopped.  She let out a gasp as she saw him.  She turned away once again and shook her head, the tears welling up in her eyes.

"Livvie, please," He pled as he stepped beside her and touched her arm, "Please....just listen to me."

"Why Chris?  After everything that you did to me, why should I listen to you at all?"

"Because you know that you should listen to what I have to say.  Because you know that what I have to say is worth waiting just a few minutes for.  Because.......because what I have to say could change both our lives."

Livvie wiped at the tears slipping down her cheek, "You've already ruined my life, Chris.  I don't know how you could change my life again."

"Livvie, please."

She watched him for a moment, "I have to go," She turned away.

Chris watched her for a brief heartbreaking second, "Wait, Livvie, please don't leave  me."

She met his eyes and saw the sincerity that had drawn her in before.  It was the same sincerity that had proven false when he'd broken her heart.

"Chris, how can you ask me for anything?  You used me."

"Livvie, I never meant for things to happen the way they did."

"What did you mean to happen Chris?"

He watched her for a moment and reached out to take her hand.  When she didn't withdraw from him, he felt a slight twinge of encouragement.

I had big plans for our future,
Said I'd give you the whole world somehow
I tried makin' good on that promise,
Thought I'd be so much further by now

"Liv," He started, "I did mislead you.  I lead you to believe that I didn't know all the secrets about your family and I did try to use all of it to destroy Rachel.  I thought it was the only way.  I had so many plans on how to enjoy watching Rachel suffer.  What I didn't plan on was growing so close to you."

"Chris, stop..." She began to protest.

"Livvie, just listen to me," He said giving her hand a tiny squeeze, "I started thinking of you as my friend early on.  I didn't have anyone that I could talk to about my feelings for Julie.  No one was willing to listen or understand.  But you listened to me and you cared.  No one else did that.  I knew then that you were something special."

"But you used me."

He nodded somberly, "Yes I did, but I never meant to hurt you the way that I did.  I never planned it that way."

Never could build you a castle,
Even though you're the queen of my heart
But I've had the best of intentions from the start

"I am a huge screw up, Livvie.  I've wasted the best moments of my life for all the wrong reasons.  I've tried to look for everyone's weaknesses so that I could get one up on them.  When Lucy and Kevin told you to stay away from me, they were trying to protect you again.    I couldn't let them pull you away from me though....because I cared about you so much already."

Now some people think I'm a loser,
Cause I seldom get things right
But you make me feel like a winner,
When you wrap me in your arms so tight

"Chris, I don't understand.  You were pushing me away then.  When I kissed you, you reacted like I'd hurt you somehow.  Then when Lucy wanted me to move back to the hotel with her, you agreed with her.  How can you say that you cared about me then?" Livvie asked as she held his eyes with hers.

"I pushed you away because I was already feeling guilty about what I was doing.  I didn't want to hurt you anymore than I was already going to.  I didn't want to be any more of a complete reptile than I already was.  I was trying to save you."

"Then why didn't you stop then?  Why didn't you just tell me the truth Chris?"

Please tell me you will remember,
No matter how much I do wrong
That I had the best of intentions all along

"I don't know," He replied honestly, "I just really don't know.  I thought that if I was that far along I couldn't stop.  So I kept on with my revenge."

"So that's why you made love to me?  For revenge?" Livvie asked in pain, "Chris, I fell in love with you and you just used it to your advantage.  You made me believe that you loved me too.  Why are you telling me this?  Why are you making this more difficult?"

I'd gave you a ring, and I promised you things
I always thought we'd do
But my best-laid plans slipped right through my hands to show my love for you.
And if you could read my heart,
then you'd know without exception
It was all with the best of intentions

He took her hand more firmly and placed her palm flat against his chest over his heart, "I'm telling you because I don't want to lose you, Livvie.  I don't want to lose what I feel for you.  I never thought I'd get the chance to look into another woman's eyes and feel that she understood me.  I feel that with you.  I feel so much with you."

So here I am asking forgiveness,
and praying that you'll understand

"Chris," Livvie said looking back to his eyes as her tears pooled again.  The PA announced the final boarding call for her flight as she shifted and met his eyes, "What are you trying to say?"

"I'm saying that I love you Livvie.  It wasn't what I planned on.  It wasn't really what I had ever expected to find again, but I have.....with you....Please.....please don't leave me.  Please give me a chance to prove that I'm sincere.  Please give me a chance to prove that I care.   Please....Livvie..." He said reaching out to touch her cheek and brush away some tears, "Please just let me love you."

Don't think I take you for granted,
girl I know just how lucky I am
Though you deserve so much better,
you won't find devotion more true
Cause I've had the best of intentions

"Chris," She breathed as she reached out to touch his cheek, drawing him to her for a kiss before she met his eyes, "Can I trust you?  Can I really trust you with my heart?"

"Yes," He nodded, cupping her cheek in his hand, "Yes, you can trust me."

"How do I know?" She asked hearing one final call for her flight.

"Because Livvie, I only had the best of intentions in coming here today.  I only had the intention of loving you, nothing less, nothing more."

Livvie put her arms around him and held on tightly as her flight went on without her and she stayed in Port Charles to judge the best of intentions for herself.
