*~*Chapter Three*~*

Chris walked across the GH lobby and spotted Eve as she stepped through the ER doors. He stopped and pointed, "I owe you huge."

Eve grinned, "Then I take it that your anniversary was a roaring success," She spoke as she approached him, "Was she surprised?"

"Yes," He smiled proudly, "I think she was very surprised and very pleased, but I have to tell you, Collins," He put his arm around her and put his hand over his heart, "I'm the one that truly has the best of everything. I am the happiest man on the planet."

"Actually, I think you come in second," Kevin interrupted as he joined them, "What are you pawing my wife for?"

"Because she helped me pull off the most wonderful anniversary present for my wife, and I owe her a huge favor in return," Chris shrugged, "So should we adjourn to that supply closet now or later?" He teased as he looked to Eve.

She forced a stern elbow into his ribs as she shook her head while laughing, "Chris, you just won't do," She smiled as she moved over to her husband. She put her arm around his waist, "What do you say we all go out to dinner Friday night? It's been a while since we've done anything together."

"I'll have to check with the old ball and chain about that," Chris ventured as he rubbed his wounded ribs.

"Ball and chain?" Karen asked as she rounded the corner of the admissions desk. She grabbed his tie and pulled Chris eye to eye with her, "Smile when you say that."

Chris immediately smiled as he lay eyes upon his wife, "Have I mentioned that I love you recently?"

"Hmmm," She pondered for a moment, "Not in the last hour or so."

"Well, that needs to be rectified immediately," Chris replied, glancing back to Kevin and Eve, "If you'll excuse us, we have some marital business to work out."

"Yeah....okay, if that's what you're calling it these days," Kevin teased knowingly.

"At least I didn't call it a therapeutic consultation, Dr. Collins," Chris retorted before Karen took his hand and tugged him along with her down the hall.

Eve chuckled as she looked to Kevin, "It's nice to think that after everything we've all been through, we can finally be happy."

"Yes it is," Kevin agreed as he put his arms around his wife, "Do you think it will last?"

"I sincerely hope so," Eve smiled as she leaned against Kevin and squeezed him tightly.

Courtney stepped into the Recovery Room and quickly spotted Frank working behind the bar. She made her way to the bar and took a deep breath as she perched upon a stool, "What does it take for a girl to get a drink around here?"

Frank eyed Courtney closely and frowned, "What are you doing back in town?"

"I'm back to see my son," She paused, "He wasn't willing to listen to anything I had to say when I was in town last, but now he should be calmed down enough to listen to me now."

"I wouldn't bet on it," He said as he stared at her, "What do you want to drink?"

"Club soda," She said simply as she watched him serve her drink, "I take it by your wonderful mood that you're not having a great time of things either."

"My family hates me. Even my mother has a difficult time talking to me. If you hadn't screwed up everything the last time, we would all be just fine."

"Excuse me?" Courtney raised her hand to stop him, "You were the one who miscalculated," She pointed at him, "You were the one who thought by exposing our hand in public you'd be destroying Chris and Karen. You blew it. You ruined my relationship with the only man I've ever loved."

Frank rolled his eyes, "You ruined that relationship on your own, Courtney."

"It doesn't matter," She groaned, "I'm back to make amends with my son and maybe get Joe to forgive me as well."

He crossed his arms, "You haven't heard have you?"

"Heard what?" She asked as she watched him carefully, "Why are you grinning?"

"Because, Courtney, I hate to the bearer of bad news for you," He shrugged through his grin, "But Joe is getting married, and you are the last person he ever wants to see again."

"Married?" Courtney repeated the word with defeat thick in her voice, "To whom?"

"Gabriella Garza. She's a nurse over at GH. She's really kind of pretty," Frank shrugged, "Why she would choose my loser brother is beyond me, but there are some women who like that loser quality."

"Shut up, Frank," Courtney frowned, "How did this happen? How did you ruin everything that I worked so hard for?"

"Hey, I didn't do it," He replied defensively, "That was all your doing."

"This was all Chris Ramsey's fault," She concluded. She tapped her fingertips on the bar for a moment before she looked to Frank, "I know last time things didn't work out the way we wanted them to, but I'm not done with Chris Ramsey. I want that little troll to suffer and I want that more than ever."

Frank smiled, "Then, for once, we're in agreement. I intend to make Chris pay. I just have to figure out the perfect way to do that very thing."

Karen stood at the sixth floor nurse's station, thumbing through some files as Chris approached her. He smiled as he held their daughter in his arms, "We're ready to go home."

"I can see that," She said with a smile as she watched Natalie wiggle in her father's arms, "Unfortunately, I've got to run up to Alan's office for a quick meeting still."

"Then how about Natalie and I go home and make dinner for you to come home to?" Chris suggested as he leaned across the desk and kissed his wife gently.

"I think I'll be a very lucky Mommy when I come home," Karen smiled as she leaned in to kiss her daughter's chubby cheek. Natalie cooed at her mother for a moment before affixing her attention to her father's tie, "It looks like Natalie might be a bit hungry too."

"I'll feed our little girl while I'm at it," He smiled, "How long do you think you'll be?"

"Maybe another hour?" She shrugged, "I'll call if it's going to be any longer."

"We'll see you in an hour then," Chris kissed Karen once more before he and Natalie boarded the elevator.

Karen looked over her files again as she prepared for her meeting with Alan. She thumbed through a few papers before she glanced over to Gabi, "Gabi, have you seen a red folder around here?"

Gabi turned from the computer and quickly glanced over the area. She retrieved the folder and extended it towards a frazzled Karen, "Is this what you're looking for?"

"Thank you," Karen smiled as she took the folder, "I hate last minute meetings with the chief of staff."

Gabi smiled in response before she paused, "Hey, did you have a visitor today?"

"What do you mean?"

"There was a guy yesterday that was looking for you. He was dark, tall and very good looking. He asked for you by name."

"By name? Really?" Karen asked, "That's odd. I haven't seen anyone today."

"Well, maybe he'll come by tomorrow," Gabi shrugged, "Good night, Karen."

"Good night, Gabi," Karen smiled as she gathered her files and went down the hallway. She made her way to the elevator and pressed the button as she looked over her files once more.

As the elevator doors opened, Karen lifted her eyes and met very familiar dark pupils smiling back at her. She gasped softly as she felt all the blood leave her face, "Jagger?"
